Orioles designated OF Rudy Martin Jr. for assignment.

Martin loses his spot on Baltimore’s 40-man roster with the club needing to bring up emergency catching depth with Adley Rutschman hitting the injured list. The 30-year-old was acquired from the Royals in a trade last week.

Blue Jays optioned LHP Ricky Tiedemann to Triple-A Buffalo.

The 23-year-old southpaw was with the Jays for just one game this time around, though he did make his MLB debut on Saturday — allowing one run on two hits while striking out two batters over 1 2/3 innings. The expectation is that he’ll continue to work out of the bullpen at Triple-A Buffalo for the time being.

Blue Jays activated LHP Brendon Little from the paternity list.

The 30-year-old southpaw was away from the team for the past three games while welcoming a new addition to his family. He’ll be in uniform and available out of the Jays’ bullpen for Sunday’s series finale against the Yankees.

Griffin Conine is not in the Marlins’ starting lineup for Sunday’s battle against the Reds.

While Conine has been a fixture in the middle of the Marlins’ lineup since returning from the injured list, he’ll get a day off in this one with left-hander Nick Lodolo toeing the slab for the Reds. Leo Jimenez will start in his place at the cold corner and will bat sixth for the Marlins.

Marcus Semien is absent from the Mets’ starting lineup for Sunday afternoon’s contest against the Nationals.

It’s the second time in the last four games that Semien has found himself left out of the starting lineup, which is at least something to monitor going forward. Brett Baty will cover second base in his absence and will bat seventh against Nationals’ right-hander Jake Irvin.

Ketel Marte (knee) returned to the Diamondbacks’ starting lineup for Sunday’s series finale against the Braves.

Marte was pulled from Friday night’s contest due to soreness in his left knee and sat out Saturday’s game as a precautionary measure. He’s right back in there at second base and batting cleanup against Braves’ righty Bryce Elder on Sunday afternoon in Atlanta.

Diamondbacks selected the contract of RHP Dennis Santana from Triple-A Reno.

Santana was inked to a minor league contract last week after he elected free agency from the Pirates. While he has struggled to a 6.05 ERA over 41 2/3 innings on the season, he has proven to be a viable late-inning option in the past and could work his way into the saves mix with the Diamondbacks if he pitches well out of the gate.

Diamondbacks designated LHP Philip Abner for assignment.

Abner has struggled in eight appearances with the Diamondbacks this season, posting a 6.28 ERA, 1.53 WHIP and a 6/8 K/BB ratio across 14 1/3 innings of work. It feels like there’s a decent chance he may pass through waivers unclaimed. Dennis Santana was added to the Diamondbacks’ bullpen in a corresponding move on Sunday.

Jazz Chisholm Jr. is not in the Yankees’ starting lineup for Sunday afternoon’s battle against the Blue Jays.

Chisholm has really been struggling at the plate recently, hitting just .125/.222/.200 with one home run, three RBI and a 16/5 K/BB ratio in 45 plate appearances since the start of August, so getting a day off to clear his head instead of facing one of the toughest pitchers in the American League makes plenty of sense. Jose Caballero will start in his place at second base and bat ninth for the Bombers on Sunday.

Tyler O’Neill is absent from the Orioles’ starting lineup for Sunday’s showdown against the Rays.

It’s always mildly concerning when the oft-injured outfielder is absent from the Orioles’ starting lineup, but he has started every other game during the week and it sounds like they just wanted to give him a breather. Expect him to be back in there for Monday’s series finale.

Willson Contreras is not in the Red Sox’ starting lineup for Sunday’s series finale against the Pirates.

It appears to be nothing more than a routine day off for the 34-year-old slugger. Nick Sogard will man first base in his absence while Anthony Seigler starts at second base and will bat eighth against Pirates’ right-hander Luke Bachar.
