Brendan Donovan (groin) goes hitless in rehab game

Pérez will come off the injured list after missing just over two weeks with a forearm contusion. The well-traveled 35-year-old has compiled a respectable 3.54 ERA, 1.19 WHIP and 62/32 K/BB ratio across 81 1/3 innings this season.

The veteran is starting to find his footing a bit. After a slow start coming off the injured list, Lindor is 7-for-11 in his last three games with two doubles, a home run, two runs scored, and four RBI. Given how productive he’s been over the last few seasons, it was likely only a matter of time before he started to find his rhythm at the plate.

Robert laced a 451-foot moon shot in the eighth inning that left the bat at 112.2 mph. It was his only hit in the two games since coming off the injured list with a lumbar spine disk herniation, but it was also a good reminder of the loud, raw tools that the 28-year-old possesses. The Mets are likely going to play Robert Jr. regularly over the next couple of weeks in the hopes of being able to trade him at the deadline and free up regular outfield starts for rookies Carson Benge and AJ Ewing.

He also walked four and struck out four while throwing 62 percent of his pitches for strikes and posting a 10 percent swinging strike rate. Sproat had success with his sweeper against right-handed hitters in this one, and his cutter did have an 18 percent swinging strike rate to lefties, but no other pitches missed many bats, and he didn’t get into enough two-strike counts. Still, he seemed like he was going to complete five innings and allow just one run, but a six-pitch walk to Bo Bichette with two outs in the fifth ended his night. Chad Patrick then gave up back-to-back hits to allow Bichette to score. Sproat gets an appealing schedule with games against the Giants, Angels, and Twins coming up, but he’s hard to trust right now.

As we’ve come to expect from Thornton in his last three outings, he threw plenty of strikes with a deep pitch mix and didn’t miss many bats, but also didn’t allow a lot of hard contact. The rookie threw 65 percent of his pitches for strikes but had just a seven percent swinging strike rate, the lowest of any of his games this season. He actually got into plenty of two-strike counts but was simply unable to put Brewers’ hitters away. Thornton has good command and a deep arsenal, which makes some of what he’s doing feel realistic, but his lack of strikeout upside makes him more of a deeper league fantasy play.

Acuña logged seven innings in right field during his sixth rehab appearance since beginning a minor-league assignment over the All-Star break. At this point, it’s entirely possible Atlanta has seen enough and decides to activate him for the final two games of their current series against the Padres. Stay tuned.

Lange issued a one-out walk to bring the go-ahead run to the plate, but there was never any real danger. Lange struck out two in the inning and earned his ninth save of the season. It was a much-needed bounce-back outing after Lange blew his last two saves. The right-hander has command issues and a 6.15 ERA, which makes it tough to trust him in fantasy leagues.

Jensen launched a 416-foot blast off Tyler Mahle that left the bat at 106.7 mph and was the hardest-hit ball of the night. The rookie now has 14 home runs and 52 RBI on the season and has been swinging a hot bat over the summer. He came into Tuesday’s game hitting .289/.353/.504 over his last 30 games with five home runs, 16 runs scored, and 20 RBI. He’s certainly worth rostering in most fantasy formats.

Mahle struck out four and walked one in the outing while throwing 65 percent of his pitches for strikes and posting a 10 percent swinging strike rate. He didn’t allow much hard contact, but he also didn’t miss many bats. The good news is that his four-seam fastball was up almost one mph from his season average and actually was fastest in the fifth inning, averaging 93.4 mph. That still doesn’t mean we’d start him next week against the Brewers.

Avila walked one and struck out seven, which was his season high. He threw 70 percent of his pitches for strikes and posted a 13 percent swinging strike rate. On the season, he has averaged 60 percent of pitches for strikes, a 10 percent swinging strike rate, and just a 20.9 percent strikeout rate, so this was easily his best outing of the season. His slider was tremendous with an 81 percent strike rate and a 25 percent swinging strike rate as his main secondary against righties. His curveball was also great for him against lefties with an 18 percent swinging strike rate. Ever since his poor June 12th outing against the Astros, Avila has allowed 12 earned runs on 27 hits in 31 innings for a 3.48 ERA. It’s not elite production, but it could make him interesting in deeper leagues in his next start against the Tigers.
