Cody Bradford (elbow) will make another minor league rehab start for Double-A Frisco on Saturday.

Bradford tossed one inning last weekend in his first rehab start since early April. The 28-year-old lefty suffered a setback in his rehabilitation from last year’s Tommy John surgery, but appears to be trending towards making it back to the majors at some point in the late stages of the second half.
Angels' Joyce firmly among MLB's 'best relievers'
James Schiano breaks down Ben Joyce's recent play after he recorded his third straight save on Tuesday night, sharing why he needs to be "scooped up" in fantasy leagues.

Cardinals signed LHP Josh Fleming to a minor league contract.

Fleming made one relief appearance for the Blue Jays earlier this season before latching on with the Cubs. The soft-tossing 30-year-old southpaw heads to Triple-A Memphis as long relief depth for the Cardinals heading into the home stretch.

Dodgers manager Dave Roberts said Edwin Díaz (neck) underwent an MRI that didn’t reveal any structural issues.

The fact that Díaz is dealing with something more muscular in nature as opposed to nerve-related is an encouraging development. The 32-year-old closer landed back on the injured list with neck inflammation earlier this week. He’ll be shut down from throwing for a couple days before the club determines his next steps. He’s likely facing a multi-week absence. It’ll be Tanner Scott handling the closing duties for Los Angeles moving forward.

Kody Clemens knocked in three with a double and a single Wednesday in the Twins’ 6-4 win over the Braves.

Clemens’ big hit was a left-on-left double that would have been a homer in nine ballparks. He’s hitting .250/.297/.462 against southpaws, good for an .759 OPS that’s virtually identical to his .758 mark against righties. He’s still sitting versus left-handers on occasion, but he’s doing his best to tell the Twins that’s not necessary.

Taj Bradley allowed just one run over five innings Wednesday in a no-decision versus the Braves.

Bradley, who struck out seven, departed with a three-run lead that was blown right away in the sixth, leaving him winless in seven straight starts now. He’ll pitch in West Sacramento against the depleted A’s next week.

Yoendrys Gómez collected his 20th save with a perfect ninth Wednesday against the Braves.

Jeff Hoffman set him up by striking out three out of four batters in the eighth. We thought Hoffman might close today, but the Twins thought it was fine to use Gómez for a third straight day. He picked up saves in every game of the sweep of the Braves.

AJ Smith-Shawver surrendered four runs in 4 1/3 innings Wednesday versus the Twins.

Smith-Shawver averaged 96.8 mph with his fastball during his seven Triple-A starts and 97.2 mph in his one start for the Braves last month, but he didn’t show that kind of stuff today. He averaged 95.0 mph with his 20 fastballs, and the 31 splitters he threw were 2.8 mph slower than they were a few weeks ago. Maybe it was a one-time blip, but if not, he’s going to be a whole lot less interesting down the stretch. He’s supposed to stay in the rotation and face the Dodgers next week.

Kaelen Culpepper singled three times in four at-bats Wednesday against the Braves.

Culpepper has put together a little seven-game hitting streak 10 games into his MLB career. The Twins have been batting him ninth, but with a .314/.375/.429 line to date, he’s making a case for being moved up in the order.

Marlins acquired C Logan Driscoll from the Rays for cash.

It’s a rare post-trade deadline swap after Driscoll triggered an assignment clause in his minor league contract with the Rays. The Marlins could use some additional catching depth with starter Joe Mack battling a shoulder issue. Driscoll will likely head to Triple-A Jacksonville for now.

Cubs claimed INF Gabriel Arias off waivers from the Mets.

Arias makes a ton of sense for Chicago as a short-term stopgap solution to help fill their infield while Dansby Swanson (oblique) is on the injured list for the next couple weeks. The 26-year-old provides the Cubs with an experienced and versatile infield option behind Nico Hoerner and Pedro Ramírez. He can be safely ignored in all fantasy formats, but still represents a quality depth addition at this stage of his career.
