Max Scherzer (thumb) throws bullpen on Sunday

Mize was experiencing groin tightness in his start on Sunday, but also took a comebacker off his wrist. The throwing session on Monday was to ensure that both injuries didn’t impact his throwing. According to reports, Mize felt fine and plans to continue with his normal pre-start routine before starting on Saturday against the Royals.

Mayer landed on the injured list with a stress reaction in his left forearm. He was allegedly playing through the injury for two months, which may have impacted his performance on the field. It may just be a couple of weeks before Mayer could begin a rehab assignment, but his role in Boston for the remainder of the season remains to be seen. The team has been thriving, and they have multiple options in the infield with Romy Gonzalez back and Anthony Seigler and Tsung-Che Cheng providing value. The Red Sox could opt to keep Mayer in Triple-A to get consistent at-bats until rosters expand in September.

Kiner-Falefa has been on the injured list for a month with left forearm inflammation, so he has missed all the fun in Boston. The veteran utilityman will likely need a couple more weeks before he can begin a rehab assignment. However, while he has been out, not only have the Red Sox been on fire, but Romy Gonzalez has returned from the injured list, and Trevor Story has started to progress in his recovery from sports hernia surgery. There may not be much of a role for Kiner-Falefa to return to.

Sánchez has been out with a right ankle sprain since the end of June. He was hitting .274/.316/.437 with seven homers and 29 RBI through 234 plate appearances over 73 games for the Blue Jays and would be welcomed back in their lineup. However, he could also make for an attractive trade chip considering he has one year of team control left through arbitration and will make over $7 million next season.

Williamson was put on the injured list with shoulder fatigue back at the end of April. He has been throwing bullpens in recent weeks and will now move to face live hitters. He could begin a rehab assignment as soon as next week and potentially be an option for the Reds’ rotation if they were to free up a spot in the rotation after the trade deadline.

The slot value for the 16th overall pick in the MLB Draft is $5.05, so Rojas will sign for slightly under-slot. Viewed by many to be the best left-handed pitcher in this year’s draft, Rojas has a fastball that can get near 100 mph and a plus sweeper. He’s just 19 years old, so he will take some time to rise through the Rangers’ system, but the future is bright.

Goodman is third in the majors with 30 home runs and is under contract for three more seasons and is making just $810,000 this season in the final year before arbitration. As Rosenthal notes, the Rockies are under new leadership and “will have several additional opportunities to trade” Goodman this offseason and beyond. While it’s possible that Goodman is traded in a couple of weeks, the Rockies would need to receive a haul of players under team control for multiple years who they believe will be part of their core.

White did ground into a double play and was caught stealing after one of his singles, so it wasn’t a perfect night. Still, four hits in your third big-league game is impressive. The 23-year-old is 5-for-11 overall, and he’s yet to strike out. He’ll definitely be in the lineup Tuesday with the A’s facing a left-hander for a third straight game.

Springs pitched five scoreless frames before giving up a double and a game-tying Ketel Marte homer to start the sixth. He was then pulled after a Geraldo Perdomo bunt single. Fortunately, that runner was stranded, and Springs was charged with two runs or fewer for the first time in 10 starts since May 17. He’s still lost nine straight decisions since mid-April, however. He’ll likely make his next start Sunday in Minnesota.

Harris allowed a single and a walk in the frame, but he struck out the other three batters he faced. It’s his first save since June 12. He’d taken two blown saves since, though neither was a ninth-inning opportunity. The A’s as a team had recorded just one save over the last five weeks, that being picked up by Mason Barnett on June 25. Barnett, though, is back in Triple-A now. Harris and Elvis Alvarado are probably the co-favorites for saves on the roster.
