Max Scherzer turned back the clock in Sunday’s 7-0 victory over the Mariners, striking out 10 while throwing seven scoreless innings.
Scherzer allowed one hit and one walk in the 97-pitch masterpiece. The 42-year-old has had an up-and-down season between injuries and ineffectiveness. He’s given up seven or more earned runs in three of his 13 starts, and his ERA sits at 6.16 following Sunday’s gem. The 10 strikeouts were a season high, as he hadn’t recorded more than five in any other outing. He also surpassed Gaylord Perry to take sole possession of ninth on the all-time strikeout leaderboard. Up next is a road start against the Royals.
