Max Scherzer took the loss on Wednesday against the Rays, allowing seven earned runs on five hits and three walks over four innings pitched.
The future Hall of Fame starter had pitched better lately, but he surrendered a two-run homer to Yandy Díaz in the bottom of the first and dealt with some poor defense later on. He’s been on the injured list twice this season but continues to take the mound for Toronto when he’s healthy enough to do so. He’ll face the Royals at home next time out.
