Kerry Carpenter is being evaluated after leaving Sunday’s game because his troublesome right heel.

Carpenter missed Tuesday’s game with the same issue. The Tigers might want to give him some time off to try to get back to 100 percent. He’s certainly not helping as is while going 6-for-52 with no extra-base hits or RBI this month.

Cardinals selected the contract of RHP Hancel Rincon from Triple-A Memphis

Rincon is being called up to give the bullpen another arm with rosters expanding on Tuesday. The 24-year-old has a 4.04 ERA, 1.25 WHIP, and 88/31 K/BB ratio in 71 1/3 innings at Triple-A this season. It will be his MLB debut if/when he gets into a game.

Cardinals recalled C Leo Bernal from Triple-A Memphis

With Jimmy Crooks being sent down on Monday, Bernal will split time with Pedro Pages behind Ivan Herrera in St. Louis. The 22-year-old is the seventh-ranked prospect in the Cardinals organization and hit .278/.363/.468 with 16 home runs, 77 RBI, and nine steals in 101 games at Triple-A this season. He would be interesting in two-catcher formats if he got consistent playing time behind the plate with Herrera at DH, but it remains to be seen if that will happen.

Cardinals recalled OF Victor Scott II from Triple-A Memphis

Scott will provide some baserunning for the Cardinals with roster expansions occurring on Tuesday. The 25-year-old was hitting just .237/.320/.342 in 57 games at Triple-A, but he did have 23 steals.

Yankees manager Aaron Boone said that George Lombard Jr. (knee) will not play on Tuesday but did run and take groundballs on Monday.

While Boone said he “does not anticipate an IL stint,” for Lombard, he also “wouldn’t rule it out.” We’d expect the Yankees to put him through a bit more work pre-game on Tuesday before determining if he needs to miss any time.

Francys Romero reports that 1B/3B Yohandy Morales is being called up by the Nationals on Tuesday.

With rosters expanding, Morales is being called up to give the team another option at third base, first base, and designated hitter. The 24-year-old former 40th overall pick in the 2023 MLB Draft is hitting .286 with 25 HR and 76 RBI at Triple-A Rochester. If not for a mysterious injury that put him on the MiLB injured list in July, Morales could have been up earlier this season. If he gets regular playing time, he has enough power to be fantasy relevant.

The Athletic’s Fabian Ardaya reports that the Dodgers are calling up Alex Freeland from Triple-A Oklahoma City.

With rosters expanding today, the Dodgers will call up Freeland to give them more depth across the infield. The 25-year-old was hitting .231/.309/.313 with three home runs and a 30.5 percent strikeout rate in 223 plate appearances for the Dodgers this season.

Braves selected the contract of INF Kyle Farmer from Triple-A Gwinnett.

Farmer will provide the team with depth at multiple positions over the final month of the season. The 36-year-old was hitting .256/.306/.256 with seven RBI in 98 plate appearances at Triple-A.

Braves selected the contract of RHP Blake Burkhalter from Triple-A Gwinnett.

Burkhalter is one of the team’s additions with rosters expanding on Tuesday. The 25-year-old has a 1.48 ERA, 1.15 WHIP, and 29/9 K/BB ratio in 24 1/3 innings at Triple-A.

Spencer Miles will be the opener for Tuesday’s game against the Guardians.

Spencer Arrighetti will then likely follow for the bulk role. Miles has been solid in an opener role for the Blue Jays, but that role doesn’t provide any fantasy value. Arrighetti has allowed seven runs (six earned) on eight hits in 7 1/3 innings since coming to the Blue Jays and should not be trusted in fantasy today.

MLB.com’s Brian McTaggart reports that Ronel Blanco will be added to the Astros’ roster on Tuesday and will start against the White Sox.

The insinuation is that Blanco will be part of the September 1st roster expansion moves. The right-hander was optioned to Triple-A in the middle of August after posting a 7.71 ERA, 1.46 WHIP and a 20/12 K/BB ratio over 23 1/3 innings in his five appearances (four starts). Blanco starting on Tuesday means that Hayden Wesneski will now start on Wednesday and will not get a Sunday start this week against the Diamondbacks.
