Mets-Braves postponed on Tuesday

Stowers was hit on the foot by a Craig Kimbrel pitch, but unfortunately, it was another hamstring issue that did him in tonight. He was just on the IL from Aug. 11-24 with a left hamstring strain. He also missed the start of the season with a right hamstring strain. If Stowers goes back on the IL, it would potentially lead to more at-bats for Agustín Ramírez and Deyvison De Los Santos.

Kimbrel vomited on the mound before departing the game in the seventh. He retired two of the three batters he faced before leaving.

Rutschman hit 377- and 389-foot homers off Brandon Young for his second and third homers in 16 games with the Red Sox. It was his fifth career two-homer game. The last of those came against the Red Sox in an Orioles’ win back in April.

Bennett gave up back-to-back homers to Luis Robert Jr. and Pete Alonso in the sixth. Alonso’s really ought to have been caught in center, but Eli White, who is not Ceddanne Rafaela, backed into the wall as he was trying to time his jump. It still goes as Bennett’s third straight quality start, though he missed out on a third straight win. He’ll face the Angels next time out.

Christian Encarnacion-Strand took Chapman deep in a three-run game. It was the third homer allowed by Chapman in 46 2/3 innings this season, but it didn’t stop him from picking up save No. 398 of his career.

This would have been a terrific outing from Young if not for his former batterymate Adley Rutschman taking him deep twice. Young struck out seven and allowed just two hits aside from the homers. He’ll be a decent play against the Guardians next week.

Duran had a nice first three weeks of August, but he is 2-for-24 in his last seven games, dropping his average back down to .204. His strikeout rate is currently 27.7 percent, up from 24.3 percent last year and 21.8 percent in his career year of 2024.

The homer came off Aroldis Chapman in the ninth, but the Orioles, unfortunately, were down by three at the time and lost by one. Still, it was another impressive showing from Encarnacion-Strand, who could be playing his way into the Orioles’ 2027 plans. He’s hit .269/.314/.508 with eight homers and 30 RBI in 141 plate appearances. That’s as many RBI as Taylor Ward had in 506 plate appearances before being traded, two more than Jackson Holliday has in 316 plate appearances and seven more than Tyler O’Neill has in 260 plate appearances.

The 36-year-old right-hander came away from the session feeling good. The Rangers will wait and see how he’s feeling on Friday before determining whether the next step in his throwing progression will be another bullpen or a live batting practice session.

Davis was already set to miss the remainder of the 2026 season due to his hamstring issue, this was done as a procedural move to clear a spot on the M’s 40-man roster for the addition of Stuart Fairchild on Thursday. Davis is expected to be fully recovered and ready to go for the start of the 2027 campaign.
