Cubs promote Jake Woodford from Triple-A

There’s simply no stopping Sale right now. This was his eighth straight start going at least six innings and he hasn’t allowed more than three runs since April 6th. If not for Alec Bohm – who drove in the only Phillies’ runs with a double and homer – Sale may not have let up any here. The Phillies did get around on him pretty well here though with 10 hard-hit balls as Sale’s fastball command was a bit inconsistent, but still it’s so difficult to sustain a rally against him. He now has a 2.10 ERA as he makes a late push for the National League Cy Young award and is set to face the Rays at home next time out.

Taillon was returning from a brief IL stint due to forearm tendinitis. He allowed one run in two innings before departing after 29 pitches. If Taillon goes back on the IL, Michael Lorenzen might get a start next week.

Iglesias made quick work of the Phillies in this save needing just 12 pitches to get through the ninth inning while striking out two batters. He’s now secured six consecutive saves and had six straight scoreless outings after a bit of a rocky stretch early last month.

A tooth and nail game from the jump with huge ramifications in the fight for the National League East crown, Dubón helped the Braves put it away late. His eighth inning home run stretched their lead from one run to three and all but ended this contest. As an unlikely everyday player in Atlanta, Dubón tied his career-high with 133 games played in this one and has been productive enough with 10 home runs, seven stolen bases, and a .268 batting average while playing excellent defense at shortstop.

Bohm had a huge Friday. First, on the field where his double and home run brought home the only two runs his Phillies would score against Chris Sale and the Braves’ bullpen here. Also, off the field where he finally settled his lawsuit against his parents for mismanaging his finances and misrepresented their stakes in LLCs run on his behalf. Clearly an unfortunate and heavy situation, it makes sense that it would’ve weighed on him as he struggled for the first few months of the season. However, he has a .318 batting average and .847 OPS in the second half as he’s gotten himself back on track.

In a huge battle with Chris Sale as the Phillies chase the Braves in the National League East, Sánchez had a solid outing besides for one bad inning. All three runs scored against him came in the second when he walked the lead-off batter and then let up three singles, with an error by Bryce Harper along the way to let some runners advance. Yet not especially sharp overall, it was his fourth time in his last eight starts where he’s walked at least three batters after only doing so three times across his first 21 starts. Still, great pitchers find a way when they’re not at their best and that’s exactly what Sánchez did in his one. He’s scheduled to face the Astros at home next time out.

Martínez left the second game of Friday’s doubleheader as a precaution following a collision with shortstop Brayan Rocchio on a flyball.

Díaz threw at Dodger Stadium prior to tonight’s game and apparently looked pretty good. He’s been on the IL since Aug. 18 with neck inflammation.

Estes will be available in relief tonight and could start in place of Jack Perkins next week, though he’s a pretty dreadful option. He gave up four runs in 4 1/3 innings in his one appearance for the A’s back in June. He had a 6.88 ERA and a 65/44 K/BB in 86 1/3 innings for Las Vegas.

Perkins loses his spot after giving up three runs in three innings in his start Thursday against the Mariners. He has a 6.50 ERA in 13 starts and 20 relief appearances this year.
