J,P. Crawford (wrist) held out of action again

Povich gave up seven hits, but they amounted to only eight total bases, and he walked just one. He won for the seventh time in 40 starts since debuting with Baltimore in 2024. The Orioles are about to get Chris Bassitt back, so it’s currently unclear if Povich will get another start. He definitely helped his case, though. If he stays in the rotation, he’ll face the Rangers on Sunday.

Cano was the choice to close over Andrew Kittredge with Tyler Wells gone to Tampa Bay, and he pitched the better of the two, as Kittredge gave up the Angels’ lone run of the game in the eighth. It looks like Cano, who just signed a two-year extensin on Friday, will be the better pickup in mixed leagues.

Rodriguez had a nice night, averaging 96.8 mph with his fastball and completing seven innings for the first time since June 26, 2024. His previous high since his comeback was 5 2/3 innings. He struck out six and walked one. Rodriguez still has a 7.24 ERA at the moment, but it’s safe to say the Orioles wouldn’t trade him for Taylor Ward if they could do things over again.

With Taylor Ward gone, O’Neill should have started this game. He’s been one of the Orioles’ hottest hitters of late, batting .289/.333/.667 since the beginning of July even before the homer tonight, but the Orioles have been hesitant to use him against righties, even though he doesn’t have particularly pronounced splits over the course of his career. The homer tonight was off a lefty reliever, so that’s probably not much help. He should be in the lineup Wednesday against southpaw Reid Detmers, though.

Schanuel hit balls 105.1 and 103.4 mph tonight, though the harder of those was actually a 337-foot lineout. It’s just the third time this year that he’s hit multiple 100-mph balls in the same game and second time that didn’t involve facing Patrick Corbin. Three of his seven hardest-hit balls on the year, including the 105.1 mph shot tonight, have come in the last week, which can’t be a bad sign.

It was Bautista’s first time facing hitters since last year’s surgery to repair a labrum tear in his shoulder. The hard-throwing 31-year-old stopper has a chance to make it back to Baltimore before the regular season concludes, but he’s going to need a couple weeks or minor league rehab outings before that happens.

Rutschman will undergo an evaluation with Boston’s medical staff before his next steps come into focus. The 28-year-old switch-hitting backstop, who is currently on the injured list with left wrist inflammation, came over to the Red Sox in a trade deadline blockbuster. There should be a definitive return timetable at some point later this week.

Technically, the Rangers haven’t announced their pitching plan, but Bradford seems likely to make his season debut after missing the first couple months working his way back from Tommy John surgery. He’s unlikely to offer significant fantasy appeal, but it’s a nice matchup right out of the gate.

Chicago manager Craig Counsell confirmed that Holmes will not require any additional minor league rehab starts. The tandem of trade deadline acquisitions will get the ball later this week when the Cubs head to Kansas City for a three-game series that gets underway on Friday.

Not great. Yesavage appeared to injure his left knee while landing on a warmup pitch prior to the third inning and made an immediate exit from the contest with a trainer. He departed after firing a pair of scoreless innings. The 23-year-old’s absence would be a crushing blow in the middle of an already dismal season for the Blue Jays. He’ll undergo further evaluation and imaging to determine the severity of the issue. It certainly seems like a potential injured list situation. There should be additional clarity on his status later this week.
