Brewers acquired C Bo Naylor and RHP Codi Heuer from the Guardians for RHP Craig Yoho and OF Blake Perkins.

Naylor’s arrival seems to signal that Milwaukee is open to moving current backup catcher Gary Sánchez. The 26-year-old former top prospect never lived up to his potential in Cleveland, but he represents an interesting reclamation project for the Brewers behind starter William Contreras. He’s flashed some occasional over-the-fence pop, but needs to start making more frequent hard contact if he’s going to be a fantasy-relevant option in the future. It’s the type of challenge trade between two forward-thinking front offices that has a range of potential outcomes wider than the Grand Canyon.
Pitcher Bieber ends season on IL, future unknown
The Toronto Blue jays put pitcher Shane Bieber on a 15-day IL with a shoulder injury, ending his season early, and leaving his future as a free agent next season up in the air.

Joshua Báez is out of the lineup for Wednesday’s game against the Orioles.

Baez is hitting .083 (3-for-36) with one homer, four RBI and two steals in 10 games since launching three homers in his sublime major-league debut earlier this month. He’s also struck out a whopping 16 times during that span. The 23-year-old projects as a streaky power hitter for fantasy purposes and he’s been mostly cold of late, which makes it challenging to keep him rostered in shallow mixed leagues.

Sam Antonacci and Colson Montgomery are out of the lineup for Wednesday’s game against the Rangers.

Antonacci and Montgomery take a seat with lefty MacKenzie Gore toeing the rubber for Texas in this one. Luisangel Acuña is at shortstop with Tristan Peters in left field. The 23-year-old rookie will continue to cede the occasional start against a southpaw for the final months of the year. It’ll be Miguel Vargas moving up to the leadoff spot in a strange-looking lineup from Chicago manager Will Venable.

Athletics recalled RHP Chris Roycroft from Triple-A Las Vegas.

Roycroft joins the Athletics’ beleaguered relief mix after being claimed off waivers from the Rays earlier this week. The 29-year-old has given up 23 runs on 37 hits, including eight homers, over 24 2/3 innings in the majors this season. He’s probably not going to be a great fit in Sutter Health Park’s extremely hitter-friendly environment.

Athletics optioned RHP Hayden Juenger to Triple-A Las Vegas.

Juenger returns to the minors to make room for Chris Roycroft on the active roster. The 26-year-old has allowed 16 runs on 24 hits with a 6/8 K/BB ratio across 16 innings of work in the majors this season. Amazingly, he hasn’t allowed a home run. Go figure.

Yankees recalled RHP Elmer Rodríguez from Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre.

Rodríguez draws the starting assignment for Wednesday’s game against the Astros. It’ll likely be a one-and-done spot start for the 23-year-old prospect with veteran Max Fried expected back from the injured list later this week. He’s not a recommended option for fantasy purposes given his pedestrian strikeout rate and struggles in a handful of big-league outings earlier this year.

Yankees optioned RHP Bradley Hanner to Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre.

Hanner draws the short straw in a roster crunch with New York needing to bring up starter Elmer Rodríguez for Wednesday’s game against the Astros. The 27-year-old rookie has allowed four runs over three innings of work since being called up back on August 11.

Cooper Pratt is in the lineup for Wednesday’s showdown against the Mets.

Pratt is right back in Milwaukee’s lineup after being benched by manager Pat Murphy during Tuesday’s game against the Mets for failing to get a bunt down and not running out of the box on a pop up that ultimately fell for a hit in shallow right field. It will hopefully serve as a learning experience for the 22-year-old top prospect as he continues to acclimate to everyday life in the majors.

Jake Bauers is out of the lineup for Wednesday’s contest against the Mets due to shin splints.

Bauers has been dealing with a relatively minor foot issue for the last couple weeks. He’s presumably available off the bench with rookie Luis Lara taking over in right field to open the contest.

Jackson Chourio is out of the lineup for Wednesday’s game against the Mets.

It appears to be a routine day off for Chourio, who hasn’t taken a seat since last month’s All-Star break. It’ll be Sal Frelick taking over in left field for his first action since coming off the injured list.

Jac Caglianone (ankle) is back in the lineup for Wednesday’s showdown against the Blue Jays.

Caglianone is back in right field and hitting third following a brief two-game absence due to ankle soreness. The 23-year-old slugger has been on fire since last month’s All-Star break, hitting .322 (37-for-115) with seven homers, 25 RBI and three steals in 31 games. It’s a massive relief for fantasy managers that he’s feeling better and managed to avoid a trip to the injured list.
