Padres sign ex-Astros right-hander J.P. France

Tidwell struck out two in the 78-pitch outing, raising his ERA to 4.82. The 25-year-old righty began the season in the Giants’ bullpen, but he has now made seven starts since the trade deadline. He was acquired from the Mets last summer as part of the return for Tyler Rogers. Tidwell will remain an unexciting fantasy option in his next start, a rematch against the Cardinals.

The Giants have seven saves since the trade deadline, and Harris is the fifth different reliever to earn one. Dylan Smith is the only one with multiple saves during this span, but Tony Vitello has been using a closer by committee all season long. Harris’ save against St. Louis was the first of his big-league career.

Pallante struck out four and didn’t walk anyone. He was making his second start since returning from a brief elbow injury, and he logged five frames both times. In fact, he has pitched at least five innings in all but one start this season. His next outing lines up as a rematch against the Giants, this time at home.

The 21-year-old is now slashing .268/.362/.459 with 16 homers and 52 RBI through 420 plate appearances. He slumped for a stretch, but he’s since heated right back up. The most impressive part of his rookie season is a 26.4% strikeout rate after he was right below 30% in the minors last season. Eldridge has batted in the top four spots of the lineup in every start since the All-Star break.

Bernal delivered a three-run shot off Blade Tidwell in the third inning, putting St. Louis up 4-1. It was his second career home run. Bernal made his big-league debut on September 1 and has started every game since. He has mostly been behind the plate while mixing in at DH and first base. The 22-year-old only has 40 major-league plate appearances, but his early Statcast numbers are strong. The Cardinals’ system has plenty of catcher depth, so it’ll be interesting to see how Bernal is deployed alongside Ivan Herrera heading into 2027.

Sasaki threw multiple innings during the up-and-down session, which puts him on track to jump back into Los Angeles’ rotation at some point early next week. The 24-year-old hit the injured list with a right middle finger blister in late August.

It appears to be a routine off day for Freeman after spending time at DH earlier this week. The 36-year-old veteran is hitting .136 (3-for-22) with one homer and one steal over his last seven games. It’ll be Enrique Hernández at first base for the second straight contest.

Ohtani takes a seat for the sixth time in the last seven games as the Dodgers continue to manage his workload due to ongoing knee and biceps issues. There’s been no indication that he’ll require a trip to the injured list, but those odds could increase exponentially if he’s not ready for Friday’s series opener against the Marlins in Miami. There should be additional clarity on his status later this week. Fantasy managers should consider him day-to-day for the moment.

It was Keith’s first homer since Aug. 16, and it gave him his first multi-RBI game since Aug. 6. Keith hasn’t really been able to get much going this year, partly because he isn’t really allowed to. His bat speed is up a little, and Statcast thinks he’s been somewhat unlucky in hitting a league-average .257/.319/.404. Still, it can’t help that not only does he always sit against lefties, but he’s pulled from his starts every time he’s due to face one. He’s started and finished a game only once this month and just 46 times on the season.

He came out with a 5-2 lead. Both runs scored on solo homers, but Montero also struggled some with his control while throwing only 39 of 74 pitches for strikes. It’s understandable if his mind was elsewhere, as it sounds like he’ll soon be going on the paternity list. He could start next week against the Blue Jays, but since he seems to have worn down some, it’s also possible he’ll finish out the year in middle relief.
