Astros finalize Daulton Varsho trade

Gray rejoins Texas’ relief mix after missing roughly three weeks with elbow inflammation. The 31-year-old journeyman has pitched extremely well in a low-leverage role this season, compiling a respectable 3.93 ERA, 1.29 WHIP and 58/16 K/BB ratio across 55 innings over 48 appearances.

Macko heads back to the minors after his latest stint with the Rangers lasted only two games. The 25-year-old southpaw has made eight appearances for Texas since being acquired from the Blue Jays in the Josh Smith trade last month. He’ll remain on standby at the club’s spring training facility in Arizona in case the Rangers find a way to make the postseason.

Riley is back at third base and hitting seventh after sitting out Sunday’s series finale against the Astros with a tooth issue. The 29-year-old power-hitter is batting just .220/.292/.360 with 62 runs scored, 17 homers, 69 RBI and nine steals across 606 plate appearances this season. Simply put, he’s been one of the more notable fantasy disappointments at the hot corner.

Rafaela has been out since early September with a right quad strain. He progressed to hitting off a Trajekt machine last week. Obviously, the Red Sox would like to get him back into game action before their postseason run gets underway next week. It certainly sounds like he’s close.

It sounds like Chapman is getting close to being available again after missing time with lat tightness that cropped up last Thursday. The 38-year-old southpaw’s unbelievable late-career renaissance has resulted in back-to-back 30-save campaigns for the Red Sox. It’ll likely be Erik Miller or Garrett Whitlock handling a potential save chance during Tuesday’s series opener against the Guardians.

Chisholm returns to New York’s lineup for the nightcap of Tuesday’s doubleheader against the division-rival Rays following a nearly two-week absence recovering from a right thumb sprain. The dynamic 28-year-old power/speed combo threat has posted 19 homers and 40 steals in 134 games this season. He’s one round-tripper shy of the second 20-homer, 40-steal campaign of his career.

Schuemann will remain on standby at the club’s spring training facility in Florida in case they need to bring up a position player later this week or during the postseason. He was brought back to the majors over the weekend to replace an injured Aaron Judge (calf) on New York’s active roster.

Nimmo is back in right field and hitting fifth as he faces his former team for the first time. The 33-year-old veteran was scratched from Sunday’s lineup with an illness. He told reporters that he’s feeling much better after battling a stomach bug.

Pederson is on the bench for the eighth consecutive game after being diagnosed with a fracture in his left hand earlier this month. There’s a chance he’s ready to return at some point later this week, but fantasy managers shouldn’t count on it.
