Rays activate and DFA Steven Wilson on Thursday

Megill’s save was his 21st of the season. He retired the side in order in a perfect ninth inning. Megill has a 2.64 ERA. In his last 22 appearances, he has an 0.43 ERA, nine hits allowed, 22 strikeouts, four walks, 13 saves, a hold and zero blown saves.

Gasser gave up seven hits, walked two and struck out three. The 27-year-old left-hander allowed all three runs in the third inning. Gasser allowed two runners on, but got the next two batters out. Then he hit Austin Martin to load the bases, his second hit batter of the inning. Gasser proceeded to walk Ryan Jeffers before a two-run double by Royce Lewis made the score 3-0. He recovered to escape the inning and not allow another run, but was removed with two outs in the fifth inning after throwing 94 pitches. Gasser has a 4.57 ERA. He’s lined up to face the Dodgers on the road next weekend.

Genao has impressed since being called up Wednesday, and while it comes in a losing effort, the 22-year-old was able to collect his first MLB homer with a solo homer off Jordan Hicks in the seventh inning. It’s a small sample, but one that contains a slash of .438/.471/.625. Obviously that’s not sustainable, but it’s a pretty good indicator of the talent that Genao possesses. The question will be how he’ll adjust when the league does the same.

Murakami also drew a walk. The 26-year-old has gone deep 26 times in his first taste of MLB action, and the two-reach game improves his slash to .237/.370/.540. That average seems to be as good as it can get for Murakami because of his immense swing-and-miss issues, but if he gets on at this kind of clip with this kind of power, it’s worth it.

Clark’s first hit was a fly ball to left field that left his bat at 82.9 mph in the second inning. Even with the bases-loaded and only one out, the Tigers didn’t score. In the seventh inning, Clark roped a fly ball to centerfield and wound up on third easily with his speed. The 21-year-old outfielder is far from a finished product, but Clark has reached base safely in all eight major league games he’s played so far. He also made a great catch on a sharp fly ball off the bat of Drew Gilbert in the second inning. Clark is hitting .333 with a .966 OPS and six RBI so far.

It’s Caglianone’s fifth career two-homer game and second with two doubles and, obviously, his first with two of both. Rather surprisingly, he’s the first player this year with four extra-base hits in a game. 13 players did it last year, with Nick Kurtz even managing five in his four-homer game. Caglianone, though, is the first Royal with four extra-base hits in a game since Kendrys Morales in 2015. Caglianone’s hits ranged from 104.9 mph to 111.9 mph. He now has 20 homers and 21 doubles in the season.

This is Lugo’s victory for the month of August, if form holds; he had one in March/April, one in May, one in June and one in July. Oddly enough, four of his five victories have come against NL teams. His only previously win in American League game came in May versus the Mariners. Given all this, it seems nearly impossible that he’ll beat the Angels next weekend. Though, maybe the fact that he’s facing the Angels will trump all of that.

Pearson gave up a leadoff double to Michael Conforto, but he then got Dansby Swanson to popout and struck out both Pedro Ramírez and Pete Crow-Armstrong. He’s thrown 5 2/3 scoreless innings for Kansas City since being dropped by the Astros. There isn’t any particular reason to be optimistic about the former top prospect at this point, but he might keep getting save chances in the beleaguered Royals bullpen.

In his first start in nearly three months since suffering a fractured fibula, Holmes allowed six hits, walked two and struck out one in two trips around the Royals order. Jac Caglianone got to him both times, homering in the first and then doubling and scoring in the third. Holmes did at least do a pretty good job of getting most of the rest of the Royals to hit the ball on the ground. He might have another shaky start or two this month, but he’ll probably be somewhat useful in mixed leagues the rest of the way. He’ll face the Cardinals next.
