Jared Jones tagged for eight earned

Adell’s home run was his 22nd of the season. He hit a two-run shot off Chris Murphy in the first inning. Adell has two home runs in his last three games. He’s hitting .239 with a .698 OPS and 90 RBI.

Taylor was one out away from a two-inning save, but he lost a two-on, two-out battle with Bryan Rocchio, who hit a walk-off two-run double. He’s allowed at least one run in four consecutive appearances. Taylor has a 2.41 ERA and should remain the favorite for saves with the White Sox.

Yamamoto gave up two walks in the first and an Elly De La Cruz double in the third, retiring the other 21 batters he faced. He struck out seven. Yamamoto is 14-8 with a 2.51 ERA in 179 innings this season, which is pretty close to his 12-8 record and 2.49 ERA from 173 2/3 innings last year. The big differences are that his strikeout rate has dropped from 29.4 percent last year to 26 percent this year, but also that he’s upped his efficiency; those 179 innings have come in 28 starts this year, whereas he needed 30 to throw 173 2/3 innings last year. He’ll likely make his next start Tuesday against the Padres.

It’s a decent rebound from Lowder’s last start, when he gave up seven runs in 3 1/3 innings against these same Dodgers. Still, it’s another loss, leaving him 6-11 with a 5.79 ERA. He’s had just six quality starts in 24 tries on the year. He’s in line to make his next start Sunday against the Cubs.

Hernández had a two-run homer off Rhett Lowder and a walk tonight. Peaking at the right time, he’s hitting .417 with four homers, 18 RBI and nine walks in his last 14 games, taking his OPS from .692 to .766.

Since rejoining the Dodgers on Sept. 1, Freeland has been a lineup fixture against righties and is batting .258/.379/.419. He might be forced back into a bench role if Andy Pages makes it back.

It wasn’t exactly vintage Freeman, as he had just one hard-hit ball and that barely rating at 95.8 mph, but he had as many hits as in his previous nine games this month combined. The three tonight put him at 2,590 for his career, tying him with Vladimir Guerrero for 87th place all-time.

It seemed like JJ Wetherholt’s injury might clinch NL Rookie of the Year honors for Stewart, but Stewart hasn’t exactly set himself apart since then. He did homer the day Wetherholt went on the IL on Aug. 30, but in 14 games since, he’s hit .259 with one extra-base hit (a double) and two RBI. He is still second in the majors in RBI with 107, which figures to carry a whole lot of weight with some.

Culpepper tweaked his hamstring while trying to beat out a double play in the sixth inning. He finished 0-for-3 at the plate. It sounds like a precautionary exit, but he’ll presumably undergo imaging to determine the severity of the issue. He was back in the lineup after missing two games earlier this week with a shoulder contusion. There should be an update on his status prior to Wednesday’s series finale.
