Matt Olson hits solo homer in the Bronx

Olson smacked a two-out double off of Janson Junk in the home half of the first inning but the Braves couldn’t cash him in. After walking in the third inning, he led off the sixth with a 422-foot (105.7-mph EV) solo shot off of Joh King that increased the Braves’ lead to 3-0. Olson also led off the seventh with a walk and scored on an RBI triple off the bat of Michael Harris II. He finished his night by reaching on an error in the eighth before once again being driven in by Harris. He’s having a solid all-around season at the dish once again, hitting .269/.347/.549 with 32 homers and 70 RBI across 504 plate appearances.

Olson’s home run was his 30th. He hit a solo shot off Miles Mikolas in the first inning. Olson has now reached the 30-homer plateau in five seasons. It’s the third time he’s reached 30 home runs in a season in five years with the Braves. Olson is hitting .264 with an .876 OPS and 68 RBI.

There were very few opportunities for offense in this 1-0 win for the Braves. Olson drove in the only run though and has had a phenomenal season in total with 28 home runs, 66 RBI, a .264 batting average, and .866 OPS. Look for him to continue to produce at a high level as we come to the home stretch.

Olson connected for a two-run shot off lefty Sean Manaea, but it was the only scoring Atlanta could muster in the matinee. His 28 home runs rank seventh in the majors to date, and he’s top-five in runs and top-20 in RBI. It has been yet another strong campaign for Olson. While he’s unlikely to match his career-high 54 homers from 2023, he’s on track to blow past the 29 he hit in each of the past two seasons.

With the Braves already up 4-3 in the top of the 10th inning, Olson put the game out of reach when he blasted a three-run homer off Andrew Kittredge to extend the Braves’ lead to 7-3. It was the 27th homer of the season for Olson, who has now hit seven bombs in the month.

Olson played his 740th consecutive game, tying Dale Murphy’s franchise record for the Braves. Olson has played in 874 consecutive games overall, dating back to his time with the Athletics, the ninth-longest stretch in MLB history. He also hits a lot of homers, including one off Mitch Keller in this game that went out to right field 404 feet. Olson is slugging .862 over his last seven games and will look to keep it rolling against the Cardinals this weekend.

Olson had a solo shot off Freddy Peralta in the third and then a game-tying two-run homer off Devin Williams in the ninth. It was his second two-homer game of the series and 28th of his career. He’s tied for seventh in the majors in homers, and he’s just five shy of what he finished at each of the last two years.

Olson was solely responsible for the Braves’ insurance runs in a tight win over the Mets with two solo homers off relievers. In one of the stranger offensive games in a while, they only had five total hits and four left the yard. Nevertheless, Olson is now up to 22 home runs, 54 RBI, and an .883 OPS in what’s been an All-Star caliber first half.

Olson has been in something of a rut, but this was a really nice effort. Two his hits today were 110-mph liners and the other was a 96-mph groundball single. Olson has now played in 82 games on the year. He hit .296/.377/.654 in the first 41 of those. He’s at .256/.310/.406 in the last 41.

The ball was flying out of Citi Field on a hot summer night with four total home runs. Olson cashed the only of which for his Braves and it was his 20th of the season. In doing so, he joined Kyle Schwarber, Yordan Alvarez, Byron Buxton and Munetaka Murakami as the only players to reach that mark yet in what’s been a massive bounce-back season power wise for Olson after hitting just 29 homers in each of the last two seasons.
