Pete Alonso went 3-for-5 and drilled his 27th homer Saturday as the Orioles edged the Rays 4-3 in 10 innings.

Tyler O’Neill had the go-ahead hit in the 10th. Alonso followed that with a single and was checked on at first base, but he remained in the game and the Orioles said afterwards that it was just a calf cramp. Alonso’s homer was hit 392 feet off of Ian Seymour. He’s tied for ninth in the majors in homers and eighth with 78 RBI.

The Astros are promoting pitching prospect Ethan Pecko to start against the Angels on Wednesday, reports The Athletic’s Chandler Rome.

It’s hard to imagine a better matchup out of the gate than this, but Pecko represents a risky streaming option for fantasy managers. The 23-year-old fast-rising pitching prospect has posted a respectable 4.57 ERA, 1.33 WHIP and 86/28 K/BB ratio across 82 2/3 innings in the minors this season. He’s managed to hold his own in the hitter-friendly Pacific Coast League at the Triple-A level. There’s enough strikeout upside that he’s worth monitoring in deeper mixed leagues.

Diamondbacks recalled INF Jose Fernandez from Triple-A Reno.

Fernandez receives the call to rejoin Arizona’s infield mix with franchise cornerstone Ketel Marte landing on the restricted list. The 22-year-old rookie hit .255 with three homers and seven steals across 177 plate appearances for the Diamondbacks before being shipped back to the minors in early June.

Diamondbacks placed 2B Ketel Marte on the restricted list.

It’s unclear what exactly transpired that precipitated this unexpected development. It would be reckless to speculate. Marte missed a game over the weekend with left knee soreness, but returned to Arizona’s lineup for Sunday’s series finale against Atlanta. Jose Fernandez was brought up from Triple-A Reno to fill his roster spot. There should be some much-needed clarity on his status shortly.

Jacob Wilson was scratched from the lineup for Monday’s contest against the Royals with left shoulder soreness.

Alika Williams takes over at shortstop. It’s somewhat encouraging that Wilson’s absence isn’t related to a finger issue that cost him time over the weekend. It’s also not his throwing shoulder. There should be some additional clarity on his status at some point later this week. The Athletics have been ravaged by injuries to key contributors and they’ll likely proceed with an abundance of caution here.

Kyle Teel (ankle) progressed to taking batting practice on Monday.

Teel was cleared to start a hitting progression last week and will continue to ramp up baseball activities with the hope of making it back to Chicago by early-to-mid September. He hit the injured list with a high ankle sprain back in late July.

Matt Shaw (hand) will begin a minor league rehab assignment on Wednesday.

Shaw figures to be in the mix for starts between second and third base, along with rookie Pedro Ramírez, while shortstop Dansby Swanson is on the injured list with an oblique strain for the next month. The 24-year-old former top prospect has been on the injured list with a hand strain since late June. He should make it back to Chicago at some point before the end of August.

Kerry Carpenter (plantar fasciitis) will visit a foot specialist later this week.

There should be an idea of Carpenter’s next steps in the coming days, but his odds of returning this season feel extremely low. The power-hitting corner outfielder landed on the injured list with plantar fasciitis back in late July.

Jason Adam (shoulder) has progressed to playing light catch.

Adam told reporters afterwards that he’s pain-free after throwing for the first time since hitting the injured list with a shoulder strain back in early July. He’ll need a couple weeks to ramp-up his throwing progression, but he figures to make it back to San Diego’s bullpen at some point in September.

Joe Mack is out of the lineup for Monday’s game against the Phillies with right shoulder soreness.

Marlins manager Clayton McCullough indicated that Mack is probably going to need a couple days off to rest and recover. It doesn’t sound like there’s a high level of concern that he’ll require a trip to the injured list. It’ll be Brian Navaretto handling the catching duties for the second straight game with Agustin Ramírez at DH. The 23-year-old defensive specialist has hit .240 with 12 homers in 243 plate appearances since arriving in the big leagues back in early May.

Andrew Nardi will undergo season-ending left elbow surgery.

Nardi experienced elbow discomfort while working his way back from a stress reaction in his ribs that put him on the injured list back in late May. The exact type of surgery won’t be known until after the procedure, but Nardi is likely facing an extended absence. He figures to miss all of next year.
