Riley O’Brien struck out the side in the ninth to earn his 31st save in the first game of Monday’s doubleheader against the Reds.

O’Brien made it look pretty easy today, though it helped that he was facing Eugenio Suárez (36 percent strikeout rate), Dane Myers (26 percent strikeout rate) and Michael Toglia (just his sixth game this season but a 39 percent strikeout rate last year). O’Brien has allowed one hit over 10 scoreless innings in his last 10 appearances.
Mariners call up elite pitching prospect Anderson
The Seattle Mariners called up top pitching prospect Kade Anderson, who is expected to start against the Chicago Cubs this Saturday. Eric Samulski emphasizes why he should be added in all fantasy formats.

Marlins transferred RHP William Kempner to the 60-day injured list.

Nothing has changed in the prognosis for the 25-year-old hurler, who has been shelved since mid-July with a right elbow sprain, this was done as a procedural move to free up a spot on the club’s 40-man roster for Logan Driscoll on Friday. Kempner is set to undergo season-ending elbow surgery, though it remains unclear which procedure it will be.

Astros recalled RHP Kai-Wei Teng from Triple-A Sugar Land.

He’s been a spot starter at times this year, and with Ethan Pecko and Cristian Javier in the rotation Teng probably isn’t a sure-fire bet to remain in the pen. But for now, replacing Bryan King, it appears he’ll be part of the relief mix.
