Kyle Isbel went 2-for-4 with a homer, double and a pair of RBI as the Royals bested the Tigers in the opener of their three-game weekend series at Kauffman Stadium.
Isbel tagged Tigers’ starter Troy Melton for a 387-foot (100.8-mph EV) solo shot to open the fifth inning, extending the Royals’ lead to 2-0. He then smacked a two-out RBI double off of Ty Madden in the eighth that pushed that advantage to 5-2. On the season, the 29-year-old outfielder is slashing an underwhelming .234/.283/.354 with just five long balls and 19 RBI in 231 plate appearances.
