Cardinals recalled LHP Quinn Mathews from Triple-A Memphis.

Mathews returns to the big leagues with both Andre Pallante (elbow) and Hunter Dobbins (forearm) landing on the injured list in rapid succession. The 25-year-old southpaw has allowed three runs with a 10/6 K/BB ratio across nine innings of work in a pair of starts over the last couple weeks. He figures to have a rotation spot with the Cardinals for at least a couple weeks and offers enough strikeout upside to be interesting for fantasy purposes. The big question is whether he can throw enough strikes to be a consistent starter at the highest level.
Mariners call up elite pitching prospect Anderson
The Seattle Mariners called up top pitching prospect Kade Anderson, who is expected to start against the Chicago Cubs this Saturday. Eric Samulski emphasizes why he should be added in all fantasy formats.

Dodgers’ manager Dave Roberts told reporters on Sunday that he thinks Andy Pages underwent a minor surgical procedure to repair a left hand fracture.

There’s still no clear timeline for his potential return to action, but it’s encouraging to hear that the procedure was minor. As long as the Dodgers have him back in time for the postseason, they’re not going to rush his rehab.

Will Smith (neck) will begin a minor league rehab assignment at Triple-A Oklahoma City on Tuesday.

Smith has finally progressed to the point where he’s ready for live game action after battling a neck issue since the middle of June. It’s not known how many games he’ll need there before he’s ready to rejoin the Dodgers, but it’s possible he could be ready by the end of next week.

Dodgers’ manager Dave Roberts confirmed Sunday that Eric Lauer has been shifted back to a long relief role.

With Tyler Glasnow back and Shohei Ohtani nearing a return as well, there simply isn’t room to keep the 31-year-old southpaw in the club’s six-man rotation. He’ll be available out of the bullpen beginning on Tuesday.

Jac Caglianone was a late scratch from the Royals’ lineup on Sunday due to renewed ankle soreness.

It’s an issue that has been nagging at Caglianone for a while now and the same injury that caused him to miss Thursday’s game after making an early exit on Wednesday. It’s possible that if it continues to linger it could require a trip to the injured list.

Kyle Teel (ankle) will begin a minor league rehab assignment at Triple-A Charlotte on Tuesday.

Teel has been shelved since the end of July due to a high ankle sprain. He should only need a couple of games there to get his timing back and could be an option to rejoin the White Sox at some point next weekend barring any setbacks.

Evan Carter is not in the Rangers’ starting lineup for Sunday’s divisional showdown against the Angels.

Carter started against each of the other three left-handers that the Rangers faced this week, but he’ll get a breather in this one with Yusei Kikuchi taking the ball for the Halos. Ezequiel Duran will cover center field in his absence while Justin Foscue starts at second base and bats leadoff for the Rangers.

Diamondbacks activated RHP Drey Jameson from the 15-day injured list.

Diamondbacks designated RHP Zack Littell for assignment.

With Drey Jameson returning from the injured list on Sunday, the Diamondbacks needed to free up a spot on their active roster and Littell drew the short straw. The 30-year-old hurler posted a 7.50 ERA, 2.08 WHIP and a 3/4 K/BB ratio over 12 innings in three appearances with the Diamondbacks.

Félix Bautista (shoulder) struggled in his first minor league rehab appearance at Double-A Chesapeake on Sunday, recording only one out.

The 31-year-old hurler faced five batters in the ballgame — allowing a hit and three walks in the process. He threw just 10 of his 22 pitches for strikes while maxing out at 97-mph on the radar gun. It’s going to take some time to shake off the rust following Tommy John surgery, so expect inconsistency upon his return.

The 26-year-old backstop will get his first chance to show the Rangers what he can do after being picked up in a deadline deal from the Angels. O’Hoppe has hit just .209/.271/.295 with four homers and 23 RBI in 256 plate appearances at the MLB level this season.
