Shohei Ohtani (knee) still in play for Sunday

Littell passed through waivers unclaimed after being designated for assignment by Arizona over the weekend. The well-traveled 30-year-old wound up making just three relief appearances for the Diamondbacks after signing earlier this month. He makes sense as a long relief option on a contending roster since he’s posted a serviceable 5.21 ERA across 124 1/3 innings of work this season.

It’s worth noting that Minnesota’s top prospect Walker Jenkins is in the lineup for Triple-A St. Paul on Wednesday night. It’s a bit unclear whether Buxton will require a trip to the injured list after exiting Tuesday’s game with rip hip discomfort. It’s been an ongoing issue for Buxton over the last few months. The Twins have an off-day before Friday’s series opener against the White Sox if they want to wait before making a decision. There should be additional clarity on his status at some point this week.

Marlins manager Clayton McCullough has declined to name a closer in his absence, but Calvin Faucher seems like the logical choice to get the first opportunity. It’s a bit unclear how much time Fairbanks will miss since he’s dealt with nerve-related symptoms related to Raynaud’s disease in his fingers for the last couple years.

Monteverde returns to Miami’s relief mix after spending the last couple months in the minors. The 28-year-old southpaw made one relief appearance for the Marlins back on April 19.

Gibson earns a ticket back to the minors after serving up an extra-inning grand slam to Jarren Duran during Tuesday’s extra-inning marathon. He’s posted a lackluster 5.87 ERA across 38 1/3 innings in the big leagues this season.

Dodgers manager Dave Roberts told reporters Ohtani is trending towards starting against the Tigers on Sunday. There should be a definitive update on his status leading into the weekend but all signs point to the generational talent making his first start for Los Angeles since early July. It sounds like there’s a possibility that Ohtani piggybacks with Tyler Glasnow in some capacity for workload reasons this weekend.

It’s a bit surprising that O’Neill hasn’t hit the injured list already, but there doesn’t seem to be a ton of urgency from the Orioles to make a decision here. The 31-year-old has been diagnosed with a rotator cuff strain in his right shoulder and appears likely to miss at least a couple weeks.

Rodríguez underwent a procedure to address a labrum tear and won’t be cleared to resume baseball activities until at least March, which means he’s going to miss time at the outset of next season. The 26-year-old was showing some really encouraging signs at the plate before hitting the injured list earlier this month. His absence opens the door for Rafael Flores to continue playing regularly between catcher and first base into next season.

Green added that Soto, who has expressed confidence that he’ll play again this season, remains without a definitive return timetable. He’s been on the injured list with a Grade 2 left calf strain since late July. All signs point to Soto being ready to return to New York’s lineup at some point in September, but he’s going to need a rehab assignment before that happens.

Baez is hitting .083 (3-for-36) with one homer, four RBI and two steals in 10 games since launching three homers in his sublime major-league debut earlier this month. He’s also struck out a whopping 16 times during that span. The 23-year-old projects as a streaky power hitter for fantasy purposes and he’s been mostly cold of late, which makes it challenging to keep him rostered in shallow mixed leagues.
