Reds bring back Arroyo after Hayes placed on IL

It’s happening. Burnes will make his long-awaited return to Arizona’s rotation after missing most of the last two seasons recovering from Tommy John surgery. The 31-year-old former fantasy ace shouldn’t have any significant workload restrictions since he threw 53 pitches in his final rehab outing in the minors last week. It would be surprising if Burnes provided a massive fantasy impact given how much time he’s missed, but he’s capable of helping out in deeper mixed leagues. It’s a nice matchup right out of the gate against a Kansas City lineup that ranks 21st in runs scored this season.

Perdomo extended Arizona’s extra-inning lead with a two-run single to right field with two outs in the 10th inning. It was his lone hit in four at-bats, but it made a huge difference as the Diamondbacks would need all five of their runs to hold off Kansas City’s comeback attempt in the bottom of the frame. It was extremely encouraging to see Perdomo back in the lineup following an early exit from Sunday’s game against the Astros after being struck in the head by a line drive from teammate Ketel Marte.

Santana came on to protect a one-run lead with the potential tying run at second base after Gerardo Carrillo surrendered four runs and recorded only one out to open the 10th inning. He managed to get Michael Massey to fly out to center field before striking out Nick Loftin to end the ballgame. He got the call with Juan Morillo unavailable for workload reasons after both Justin Martinez and Brandyn Garcia pitched earlier in the contest. It was his third save of the season. He’s pitched surprisingly well for Arizona, allowing two runs over 5 2/3 innings since August 17.

Martinez worked around a two-out walk to John Rave by striking out pinch-hitter Isaac Collins to send a scoreless stalemate into extra innings. He was credited with the win in relief after Arizona scored five runs in the ensuing frame. The flame-throwing 25-year--old reliever has yet to allow an earned run across 6 2/3 innings since returning from the injured list for his season debut on August 18. He has yet to record a save for Arizona, but from a raw talent standpoint, he should be their closer of the future.

Cabrera notched only one strikeout, but managed to limit Kansas City to just five baserunners over three frames after opener Derek Law tossed two scoreless innings to get things underway. The 24-year-old rookie lacks the strikeout upside to be a useful fantasy contributor, but he’s done a nice job for Arizona in a multi-inning role, allowing just two runs over 9 1/3 innings across three appearances since returning to the majors on August 27. He’s probably going to continue pitching in relief with Corbin Burnes, Zac Gallen and Michael Soroka close to making it back from the injured list.

It’s been a tale of two halves for Cameron as his remarkable second-half turnaround continued with a sublime effort against the Diamondbacks, scattering three hits and a pair of walks over six shutout frames. The 27-year-old southpaw has allowed two runs or fewer in seven of 10 starts since the All-Star break, compiling a stellar 2.51 ERA and 54/19 K/BB ratio across 64 2/3 innings during that span. He’s ostensibly scaled back his four-seam fastball usage while leaning more heavily on a cutter, which appears to have helped him generate more swings and misses on his slider and changeup. He’ll aim to keep the momentum going when he wraps up a two-start week with a tough road matchup against the Red Sox at historic Fenway Park on Sunday.

Pages has progressed to hitting off a batting tee for the last two days. The 25-year-old fantasy standout is attempting to make it back to Los Angeles’ lineup in time for the postseason after undergoing surgery to repair a left hand fracture in late August. There’s no reason for fantasy managers to hang onto him with less than three weeks left in the season.

The Brewers were down 2-1 when Chourio delivered a groundball single against a drawn-in Cubs infield. Chourio then stole a base and scored what proved to be a very important insurance run on Christian Yelich’s single afterwards. That made it 4-2 prior to Pete Crow-Armstrong hitting a solo homer in the ninth. Chourio is batting .315 with four homers and 11 RBI in his last 12 games.

It’s the fourth time in six starts that Gasser has been lifted before completing five innings, but he has his chances today. After keeping the Cubs scoreless for 4 2/3 innings, he gave up a homer to Pedro Ramírez to tie the game at 1-1. He then plunked Pete Crow-Armstrong and walked Seiya Suzuki before being replaced by Chad Patrick, who got Alex Bregman to pop up to end the inning. With the early exits, Gasser is just 1-1 in seven outings since the beginning of August. Barring a change, he’s in line to face the Reds on Sunday.

Megill got some help while pitching in a two-run game. With one out, Pedro Ramírez sent a ball 383 feet to the wall in right that Luis Lara saw make a terrific leaping catch. Pete Crow-Armstrong then homered afterwards. Seiya Suzuki made a bid to keep the game going with two outs, but Jackson Chourio managed to pick the liner just before the ball hit the ground in left. PCA’s homer was the first off Megill in the regular season since Aug. 6, 2025 and produced the first earned run Megill has allowed in 16 appearances since July 22.
