Giants call up Seth Lonsway from Triple-A

Perez is in the middle of the worst season of his career at the plate, though he’s picked things up lately. The 36-year-old has a four-game hitting streak and back-to-back games with two hits. He’s hitting .226 with a .647 OPS and 66 RBI.

Okamoto was a hit machine on Saturday. His most impactful hits were his RBI double in the third inning and RBI single in the seventh inning. Okamoto broke out of a 3-for-17 (.176) slide in his last five games entering play Saturday. He’s hitting .233 with a .750 OPS and 81 RBI.

Varland came on with a one-run lead in the bottom of the ninth, but the Royals didn’t put up much of a fight. A groundout, a strikeout and another groundout ended the game. He threw 13 pitches. Varland has a 1.15 ERA in his breakout season as the Blue Jays closer.

Lugo gave up eight hits, walked two and struck out one. It was a somewhat passable start for the 36-year-old right-hander, though he allowed at least eight hits for the third time in his last four starts. At least he didn’t allow nine runs like he did against the Guardians in his previous start. Lugo has a 5.04 ERA. He’s lined up to face the Red Sox on the road next weekend.

Scherzer gave up five hits, walked one and struck out two. He was coming off his best start of 2026 and maybe the last few years when he struck out 10 and shut the Mariners out for seven innings. Scherzer has completed at least five innings in six of his last seven starts after failing to complete four innings in five of his first seven starts this year. He has a 6.03 ERA on the season, but a 3.79 ERA and 30 strikeouts in 38 innings over seven starts since the beginning of August. Scherzer is lined up to face the Orioles at home next week.

Story knocked a base hit and scored a run in the sixth inning, then singled and scored again in the seventh. He later added a third late hit with a base knock in the ninth for his first three-hit game of the season. The 33-year-old shortstop is hitting .237/.269/.342 with three homers, 19 runs scored, 23 RBI, and four steals across 201 plate appearances.

The nine days’ rest did Gray well on Saturday as he dominated the Orioles over seven shutout innings on his way to a win. He scattered just three hits and issued three walks while collecting seven strikeouts. The 36-year-old right-hander ends the day with a 2.69 ERA, 1.16 WHIP, and a 135/40 K/BB ratio across 150 2/3 innings. He’s currently lined up for a start against the Royals in Boston on Friday.

Bassitt stranded the bases loaded in the first inning. He then settled in for four more scoreless innings, limiting Boston to two more baserunners before he ran into trouble in the sixth. Bassitt loaded the bases and gave up a two-run single with two outs. That would end his day at 91 pitches. One inherited runner would come in to score. The 37-year-old right-hander will take a 4.96 ERA, 1.58 WHIP, and a 61/33 K/BB ratio across 85 1/3 innings into a start against the Blue Jays in Toronto on Friday.

Aranda went hitless in his first three at-bats before knocking a base hit and scoring a run in the eighth. He then came through in a big spot for the Rays, taking Jacob Latz deep for a three-run blast in the tenth inning to take the lead. It was Aranda’s fifth home run in the second half, four of them coming in his last 11 games. The 28-year-old first baseman is up to 19 with 85 RBI while hitting .278/.361/.429 across 601 plate appearances.

Caminero put the Rays on the board early, taking Jacob deGrom deep for a solo homer in the first inning. He later added a base hit in the eighth. The 23-year-old slugger is hitting .281/.365/.532 with 38 home runs, 87 runs scored, and 91 RBI across 620 plate appearances.
