Will Warren earned the win in Sunday’s 16-1 win over the Red Sox, allowing one earned run on six hits over seven innings pitched.

Warren struck out seven and walked one in the 98-pitch outing. He pitched into the eighth but was removed after a couple of Boston hitters reached base. The Yankees took three of four against the Sox this weekend with the win, and they claimed the season series. That affects home field in the Wild Card round if the two rivals finish with identical records. Warren lowered his ERA to 4.23. He was nearly squeezed out of the rotation in recent weeks, and he still figures to pitch out of the bullpen come October. But he certainly showed his value as a starter. He’ll visit the Padres at Petco Park in his next scheduled appearance.

Yankees manager Aaron Boone said that “Will Warren could piggyback after Max Fried’s next start.”

That will be this weekend in San Diego. Fried threw 63 pitches in his start on Saturday, so he should be built up to at least 70 pitches by the weekend, but he has also battled a bone bruise in his elbow that has come from hyperextension while pitching. The Yankees may want to keep his pitch count in check before the postseason. For his part, Warren was great on Sunday against the Red Sox, but it seems that his reward might be a few innings of bulk relief in his next outing. That makes it tough to trust either pitcher this week.

Will Warren allows three runs (two earned) in five innings and got a no-decision against the Astros on Tuesday.

Warren gave up seven hits, walked two and struck out four. He now has a 5.97 ERA in four starts in August. Warren has a 4.39 ERA on the year. He’s lined up to face the Red Sox at home on Sunday.

Will Warren received a no-decision on Wednesday against the Orioles, allowing two earned runs on three hits over four innings pitched.

Warren struck out five and walked two while needing 90 pitches to record 12 outs. He gave up a solo homer to Pete Alonso but limited the damage despite being inefficient with his pitch count. The right-hander could soon be squeezed out of the Yankees’ rotation once Max Fried makes his way back from the injured list. Additionally, it’s unlikely that Warren factors into the rotation mix come October. It remains to be seen how New York plays this, but he is lined up to face the Astros at home next time out if he stays on schedule.

Yankees placed LHP Max Fried on the 15-day injured list, retroactive to August 14, with a left elbow bone bruise.

Not great. It’s unclear how much time Fried is going to miss, but it’s a massive concern for the Yankees, and fantasy managers, with less than six weeks left in the season. He was scheduled to start against the Orioles on Wednesday. The 32-year-old southpaw limited the Mariners to one run over five innings last Thursday in his fifth start back from the injured list after missing time for the same issue earlier this season. It’ll be Carlos Rodón (elbow) taking his spot in New York’s rotation, which means that neither Will Warren or Ryan Weathers are heading to the bullpen now.

Carlos Rodón (elbow) will be activated from the injured list to start against the Orioles on Tuesday.

Rodón returns to New York’s rotation for the first time since hitting the injured list with elbow inflammation back on July 3. The 33-year-old veteran southpaw recorded seven punchouts over 4 1/3 shutout frames for Double-A Somerset in his final rehab tune-up last week. He shouldn’t have any significant workload restrictions in his return from the injured list and should be rostered in all fantasy formats. His return bumps Will Warren back an additional day and figures to push hard-throwing southpaw Ryan Weathers into a relief role.

Will Warren allowed five runs in four innings and got a no-decision in the Yankees’ 10-5 victory over the Mariners on Wednesday.

Warren gave up six hits, walked four and struck out three. The trouble started right away for Warren as five batters into the game it was 3-0 and the Mariners already had two home runs. He allowed another home run in the third inning. Warren walked Randy Arozarena to being the fifth inning and was promptly removed, but Arozarena still came around to score with the run being charged to Warren. It was a bad start for Warren, who would’ve been on the hook for the loss if the Yankees didn’t come from behind to win after he was already out of the game. He’s lined up to face the Orioles on the road next week.

Will Warren allowed three runs in 5 1/3 innings and took the loss against the Cardinals on Wednesday.

Warren gave up seven hits, walked one and struck out five. He fell to 8-6 with the loss. Warren pitched well, but gave up three runs in the fifth inning and the Yankees failed to mount a comeback. His ERA is 4.18. Warren is lined up to face the Mariners at home next week.

According to USA TODAY’s Bob Nightengale, the Padres turned down the Yankees’ proposal for an Adrian Morejon trade that would have involved Will Warren.

There might have been others involved. Morejon is one of baseball’s best relievers, but he’s also a free agent at season’s end. Meanwhile, Warren is at least a league-average starting pitcher who is making the minimum both this year and next and won’t be a free agent until after 2030. That’s certainly not a bad offer, assuming that Nightengale has the correct info here.

Will Warren pitched 6 2/3 innings against the Cubs on Friday and didn’t allow a run while striking out seven.

Warren badly needed a start like this after coming into the day with a 7.50 July ERA and a 1.67 WHIP. Warren still allowed nine hard-hit balls, but decreased his fastball usage and seemed to get a little extra variability out of that, with a 45 percent whiff rate on his changeup. Assuming he maintains his starting job after the deadline, Warren is scheduled to face the Cardinals next week.

Will Warren surrendered six runs in three innings Sunday in a loss to the Phillies.

Warren, who had pitched just two-thirds of an inning over the last two weeks, turned in his worst start of the year in giving up a triple and a sac fly in the first, a solo homer in the second and then four runs in the third. The big blow was a three-run double to left from Alec Bohm that might have been caught by a healthy Cody Bellinger. That followed an intentional walk (after a 2-0 count) to Brandon Marsh. Warren struck out five, but he fell to 7-5 with a 4.41 ERA. He’s already in line to get bumped from the rotation when Carlos Rodón returns, but now one wonders if he might be expelled earlier. For now, he’s set to face the Cubs next weekend.

Geraldo Perdomo was removed from Sunday’s game against the Astros after being struck in the head by a line drive off the bat of Ketel Marte.

Perdomo was on first base and running to second when he was struck by a 93-mph line drive off the bat of Ketel Marte. He remained on the ground for several minutes before ultimately being able to walk off the field under his own power. He’ll head for further evaluation but will almost certainly have to pass through the concussion protocol before he’s cleared to return to action.

Davila has been shelved since the end of August due to an SC joint sprain and now it’s official that he’ll miss the remainder of the season. It’s unclear whether or not he’ll ultimately require surgery to repair the issue. This move clears a spot on the M’s 40-man roster for the arrival of Michael Arroyo on Sunday.

The M’s are hopeful that the 21-year-old top prospect can infuse some life into an offense that has been struggling miserably lately. Arroyo was having a strong season in the upper minors, slashing .283/.359/.471 with 18 homers, 81 RBI and 17 stolen bases in 532 plate appearances between Double-A Arkansas and Triple-A Tacoma. Expect him to jump right into an everyday role in the M’s lineup which could make him an interesting flier in deeper mixed leagues.
