Adell delivers two runs scored in loss to Jays

Peralta held the Red Sox scoreless through two innings before giving up a run on a pair of doubles in the third. He went on to pitch into the sixth without giving up another run, leaving with one runner on and two outs at 97 pitches. He struck out six. The 30-year-old right-hander will take a 4.56 ERA, 1.33 WHIP, and a 152/60 K/BB ratio across 163 2/3 innings into a start against the Phillies in Philadelphia on Friday.

Saturday’s effort might have earned him another start before the end of the season as the team tries to keep its rotation fresh for the postseason.

Ohtani, who is sidelined with biceps and knee issues, resumed hitting earlier this week. He’s eligible to come off the IL on Wednesday, though Friday might be a more realistic return date.

Sánchez got the start behind the dish on Saturday and drove in the only run of the game on a groundout in the second inning. He later led off the eighth with a single and was lifted for a pinch-runner. The 33-year-old backstop is hitting .209/.352/.419 with 11 homers and 36 RBI across 264 plate appearances.

His biggest challenge came in the sixth as he loaded the bases with one out before inducing a ground-ball double play. Gasser returned to complete a scoreless seventh inning. He struck out two. The 27-year-old left-hander will take a 4.01 ERA, 1.24 WHIP, and a 94/34 K/BB ratio across 103 1/3 innings into a start against the Cardinals in Milwaukee on Friday.

Rogers struck out two batters in a clean first inning, then gave up a triple on what should have been a routine fly ball before the Brewers brought a run in on a groundout. He recovered with six more scoreless frames, ending his day with ten strikeouts over eight innings while taking a tough-luck loss with zero run support. The 28-year-old left-hander will take a 4.07 ERA, 1.18 WHIP, and a 153/39 K/BB ratio across 165 2/3 innings into a start against the Yankees in New York on Friday.

It’s not yet decided whether Sasaki will start or be used as a bulk guy. Sasaki has been on the IL since Aug. 27 with a finger blister.

Snell left Wednesday’s game with groin tightness. It looks like he’ll be limited to one tuneup appearance prior to the postseason.
