It was the 26th homer of the season for Soto, who now has four homers in September and has hit safely in three of his last five games. He is slashing just .239/.329/.463 in the month.

Fairbanks landed on the injured list earlier in the week due to right median nerve irritation and now we know what was really going on. It’s a brutal blow for the impending free agent as he’s going to require a lengthy require and won’t be ready for the start of the 2027 season.

It’s been a down year for Ramírez based on his surreal track record of first-round fantasy production that stretches back nearly a decade. With the victory, the Guardians remain in a virtual tie with the White Sox for the AL Central division title with just over one week left in the regular season.

Thornton was solid in this one, scattering five hits over six innings of work while allowing only one walk. He gave up an RBI double to Bryson Stott in the second inning and allowed a solo homer to Edmundo Sosa in the sixth inning before being pulled at the start of the seventh. Thornton has strung together back-to-back quality starts and has allowed just four earned runs over his last 13 innings of work while striking out eight batters. He’ll look to finish out a strong rookie season with his final start of the year, which is set for Thursday on the road against the Rangers.

Gelof put the Athletics ahead with a 393-foot blast to right-center field off Guardians opener Daniel Espino in the first inning.
