Jackson Holliday sits against southpaw on Thursday

He struck out two. Expectations were that we’d be seeing quite a bit more of Barco in the majors this season, especially after he opened the year on the Pirates’ active roster, but he was sent down after four appearances in April and made just three more over the course of the season. In Triple-A, he ended up with a 3.79 ERA and an 80/41 K/BB over 14 starts and seven relief appearances. He’s gone from looking like a potential fourth or fifth starter to more of a middle relief guy now.

Neither the Pirates nor the Red Sox got what they wanted from the García-Johan Oviedo swap in year one. Garcia did spend a little time int he majors, but he went 8-for-48 with no homers and a 16/1 K/BB. With Esmerlyn Valdez having overtaken hm as a right-handed corner outfield option, his future is rather cloudy right now.

He allowed a run in two-thirds of an inning. Jiménez hasn’t pitched for the Braves since 2024 because of knee troubles. He’s giving it a go now, but it remains to be seen if Atlanta will activate him. His velocity is down about two mph from where he was two years ago.

Suarez, out since late June with a forearm strain, averaged 96.9 mph with his four fastballs, down about two mph from his season average of 98.8 mph. Sunday’s game was Gwinnett’s last of the season, so Suarez will not be able to make any additional appearances before coming off the IL.

Pinckney, sent down Wednesday, would surely prefer to still be in the majors, but he helped Rochester clinch a postseason berth with a 15-8 win over Buffalo on Sunday. The Red Wings will play the Redbirds (the Cardinals’ Triple-A affiliate in Memphis) for the International League championship starting Tuesday.

That’s the end of the Triple-A season, so Santander is done for the year unless the Jays activate him. Perhaps that could happen if Vladimir Guerrero Jr. is shut down because of his back. Santander has spent the entire season on the IL because of shoulder issues.

Winckowski ends the year having allowed one run and struck out 17 in 13 2/3 innings for Low-A Dunedin and Buffalo. The former Red Sox middle reliever will compete for a job with the Jays in spring training after signing a two-year minor league deal following surgery last winter.

Early, making his way back from elbow inflammation, didn’t allow any hits, but he did walk three. He might come off the IL to make his Nationals debut during the final weekend of the season.

No word yet on who is being replaced, but the Twins can likely do without Alex Jackson. It’s a nice reward for the 27-year-old Sabato, who was long viewed as a bust but has turned himself into at least a nice Triple-A player the last two seasons. He hit .273/.349/.528 with 25 homers in Triple-A this year. One imagines he’ll get a couple of starts between first base and DH this week.

Martin said he’s been dealing with the calf since April, but that it was more of a problem tonight because rain led to an unstable pitching mound. He said he’ll be fine to make his next start.
