Jac Caglianone dealing with Grade 1 flexor strain

Caglianone takes a seat for the third consecutive game after being diagnosed with a Grade 1 flexor strain in his left elbow. It’ll be Matthew Lugo drawing another start in right field on Tuesday. There was optimism the 23-year-old burgeoning star would avoid a trip to the injured list and nothing has changed on that front for now. The Royals have an off-day before they kick off a three-game series against the Red Sox at Fenway Park on Friday night. There should be additional clarity on his status leading into that contest. However, fantasy managers should consider him day-to-day for now.

The Royals certainly could’ve used Caglianone’s formidable bat as they attempted to erase a five-run deficit in the 10th inning, ultimately falling one run short. The 23-year-old rising star was held out for the second straight game after being diagnosed with a Grade 1 flexor strain in his left elbow. It’s unclear whether he’ll require a trip to the injured list, but there should be some clarity on his status as the week progresses.

Caglianone made an early exit from Saturday’s game due to soreness in his left elbow and he’ll sit once again on Sunday as a precautionary measure. As of now, there are no indications that he’ll require an extended absence from the lineup so he’s considered day-to-day. John Rave will start in his place in right field and bat leadoff for the Royals on Sunday afternoon.

It’s unclear when exactly Caglianone sustained the injury or what the extent of it is, but he was replaced by Nick Loftin in the third inning. Expect him to head for further evaluation and for the Royals to provide an update on his status as soon as more information becomes available.

The 23-year-old slugger smacked an RBI double in the third inning that tied the game at two runs apiece. He then chipped in a run-scoring single in the eighth that increased the Royals’ edge to 5-3. With his two-hit attack, Caglianone is now slashing .284/.333/.497 with 23 homers and 69 RBI over 505 plate appearances in what has been a breakout sophomore campaign.

Caglianone singled in the first inning and was left stranded. He then smacked a two-run single in the second that extended the Royals’ early lead to 4-0. The 23-year-old slugger added an RBI single in the sixth and rode home on Vinnie Pasquantino’s two-run shot. He then doubled in the eighth and scored on an RBI single by Pasquantino before crushing a 409-foot two-run shot of his own off of Myles Straw in the ninth inning. With the monstrous performance, he’s now hitting an impressive .282/.332/.500 with 23 homers and 66 RBI on the season.

Caglianone is back in right field and hitting third following a brief two-game absence due to ankle soreness. The 23-year-old slugger has been on fire since last month’s All-Star break, hitting .322 (37-for-115) with seven homers, 25 RBI and three steals in 31 games. It’s a massive relief for fantasy managers that he’s feeling better and managed to avoid a trip to the injured list.

The off day Monday apparently wasn’t enough for Caglianone to overcome his ankle soreness. Josh Rave is playing right field tonight.

It’s an issue that has been nagging at Caglianone for a while now and the same injury that caused him to miss Thursday’s game after making an early exit on Wednesday. It’s possible that if it continues to linger Caglianone could require a trip to the injured list.

The 23-year-old slugger was removed from Wednesday’s game due to soreness in his ankle and it was bothering him enough that he was held out of Thursday’s contest as well. The day off seems to have done him some good though, as he’s back in there in right field and batting third against Tigers’ right-hander Troy Melton on Friday evening in Kansas City.
