Twins option Gabriel Gonzalez back to Triple-A

Now this is fun. Davidson has joined San Francisco ahead of Monday’s series opener against the Twins after a sizzling-hot stretch to close out the year at Triple-A Sacramento where he’s hit .367 (18-for-49) with three homers since the start of September. He finished the season slashing a robust .290/.361/.527 with 29 homers and 20 steals in 125 games in the upper minors. The 24-year-old has gone from undrafted a couple years ago to one of the top prospects in San Francisco’s system. He possesses a fantasy relevant skillset and should be an interesting X-factor during the final week of the year. He’s worthy of a speculative roster spot in deeper mixed leagues.

It’s been an abysmal lost season for Guerrero, who has gone from one of the most fearsome hitters on the planet during last year’s postseason to a non-factor at one of the thinnest position groups in the fantasy landscape. A compelling explanation, most likely due to playing through physical issues, will be unearthed at some point in the next few months, but it doesn’t make things any easier for fantasy managers to stomach. The 27-year-old franchise cornerstone is sitting out after making an early exit from Sunday’s game against the Rangers with lower back tightness. It’ll be rookie Sean Keys taking over at the cold corner.

Holliday finishes a very disappointing year with a .229/.300/.340 line in 98 games. His hard-hit rate was just 33 percent, down from 40 percent last year and 45 percent in 60 games as a rookie in 2024. He wasn’t very good defensively at second base, either. Maybe the wrist took a toll on his offense, but all things considered, he shouldn’t be promised a starting job next spring.

It’s likely just a rest day for he and Max Clark versus a lefty. Both had started 14 straight games since last sitting on Sept. 5. The Tigers have Hao-Yu Lee at third and Javier Báez in center tonight.

José Barrero is playing second tonight. This follows manager Craig Albernaz criticizing Jackson after Sunday’s game for swinging at the first pitch he saw in the sixth and grounding out after Chad Patrick had just thrown nine straight balls to load the bases. Jackson went 0-for-4 last night and 1-for-13 in the series against the Brewers.

Yesavage will make his return from knee surgery in a start against the Orioles tonight. The Jays are hoping for three innings out of him and then will probably turn the ball over to Spencer Miles.

Dallas has a 6.10 ERA over 10 1/3 innings in four relief appearances for the Jays this season. He finished up with a 3.15 ERA in 12 starts and 15 relief appearance for Buffalo. He’ll be available out of the bullpen tonight.

Arrighetti loses his spot after allowing two runs in 2 1/3 innings on Sunday. He had a 6.35 ERA in two starts and five relief appearances since arriving from Houston in the Daulton Varsho trade.

Mantiply had allowed six runs in 9 1/3 innings since returning from knee surgery on Sept. 1. He has a 3.33 ERA overall in 27 innings this season.

Sabato, the Twins’ first-round pick in 2020, will make his major league debut after hitting .273/.349/.528 with 25 homers in 470 plate appearances for St. Paul. He could see time at first base and DH this week.
