The 25-year-old infielder remains out for the second straight contest due to left hamstring discomfort. It’ll be rookie Sam Antonacci moving to second base with Randal Grichuk entering the lineup in left field.

Meidroth appeared as a pinch hitter off the bench on Saturday night and had Sunday’s contest meant anything for the White Sox, he likely would have returned to action. Instead, he’ll get an extra day of rest as the White Sox get ready for their Wild card matchup.

Chase Meidroth had a double in two at-bats off the bench Saturday against the Rockies.

Meidroth didn’t start because of hamstring discomfort, but it’s a good sign that he was able to enter the game and stick around to play second base. He still might get Sunday off, especially since the game is now a meaningless one for the White Sox.

Chase Meidroth was held out of the White Sox’ starting lineup on Friday due to left hamstring discomfort.

White Sox’ skipper Will Venable noted that Meidroth has been playing through several minor injuries, with the hamstring issue ranking at the top of the list. He’s expected to be available off the bench on Friday and should return to the starting lineup on Saturday. Sam Antonacci will cover second base in his absence while Randal Grichuk will draw a start in left field and will bat seventh against Rockies’ right-hander Tomoyuki Sugano.

Chase Meidroth went 3-for-4 with a home run and five RBI against the Royals on Tuesday.

Meidroth’s home run was his 16th of the season. He hit a three-run shot off Daniel Lynch in the third inning. Meidroth has two home runs and seven RBI over his last two games. He’s hitting .271 with a .756 OPS and 63 RBI with five games left in the regular season.

CWS 2nd Baseman #17

Sam Antonacci went 2-for-4 with a two-run double Sunday as the White Sox topped the Tigers 8-1.

Antonacci has been stuck on eight homers since July 29, but his OPS has held up nicely at .754. He has been sitting against lefties of late and the White Sox are slated to face three in their final six games, so he’s not a great final-week option in shallow leagues.

Tristan Peters is not in the White Sox’ starting lineup for Thursday’s divisional matchup against the Tigers.

Peters doesn’t normally sit against left-handers, but the White Sox have opted to work in all of their bench bats in this one with Peters, Colson Montgomery, Andrew Benintendi, Kyle Teel and Sam Antonacci all getting a breather in this one. Brenton Doyle will start in Peters’ place and will bat sixth against Tigers’ southpaw Framber Valdez.

Chase Meidroth went 2-for-4 with a walk and a pair of solo home runs on Friday evening as the White Sox fell to the Cardinals in St. Louis.

Meidroth got the game started with a bang, crushing Matthew Liberatore’s very first pitch for a 398-foot (103.7-mph EV) leadoff home run. He then led off the third inning with a 391-foot (103.9-mph EV) solo shot that tied the game at 2-2. The 25-year-old infielder is having a solid season at the dish, slashing .269/.345/.402 with 14 homers, 53 RBI and three stolen bases in 591 plate appearances.

Miguel Vargas is not in the lineup for Wednesday’s showdown against the Pirates.

It’s an extremely rare off day for Vargas with Colson Montgomery taking over at the hot corner and Chase Meidroth at shortstop. The 26-year-old is in the middle of a career year at the dish, slashing .250/.361/.482 with 95 runs scored, 30 home runs, 79 RBI and 16 steals in 627 plate appearances over 142 games.
Sam Antonacci

CWS 2nd Baseman #17

Sam Antonacci doubled three times and drove in two runs as the White Sox topped the Twins 10-1 on Sunday Night Baseball.

Antonacci got his three doubles without the benefit of a hard-hit ball. He’s totaled 23 two-baggers in 123 games since arriving in the majors, and his .367 OBP placed him third among rookies behind TJ Rumfield (.389) and Kevin McGonigle (.373).

Yankees’ manager Aaron Boone announced Sunday that Cam Schlittler will start Game 1 of the Wild Card Series against the Red Sox.

That means that Max Fried will pitch for the Yankees in Game 2 while Gerrit Cole would be waiting in the wings for Game 3 if necessary. Schlittler is certainly deserving of the honor as he posted a brilliant 1.95 ERA, 0.92 WHIP and 239 strikeouts over 193 2/3 innings over 33 starts during the regular season and is the favorite to take home Cy Young award honors in the American League.
