Tigers signed LHP Nick Raquet to a two-year, minor league contract.

Raquet, who was released by the Orioles last month, recently underwent Tommy John surgery and probably won’t pitch at all next season. The 30-year-old has a 4.76 ERA in six MLB relief appearances with the Cardinals and Orioles the last two seasons. He has a 5.00 ERA and a 130/50 K/BB in 129 2/3 career innings in Triple-A.
Diaz is a 'massive linchpin' in Rays' lineup
Eric Samulski and James Schiano break down why Yandy Diaz is a crucial piece to the Tampa Bay Rays' lineup in this World Series and how he is one of the most underrated hitters in the MLB.

Raquet was removed from Baltimore’s 40-man roster earlier this week and went unclaimed on waivers. He suffered an elbow injury while pitching for Triple-A Norfolk last week. He made four appearances for the Orioles earlier this season.

Raquet has been cut loose with Baltimore needing to open up a couple 40-man roster spots, most notably for waiver claim Luis Robert Jr.

Raquet heads back to the minors after allowing three runs over 3 2/3 innings across four appearances for the Orioles. The 30-year-old lefty has made six relief appearances in the big leagues over the last two years.

Raquet provides a second left-hander in the bullpen for the Orioles. The 30-year-old will head up with Cameron Weston already sent down by the Orioles on Monday. Expect Raquet to be up-and-down for much of 2026.
  • BAL Starting Pitcher #72
Raquet was only up for a day and didn’t make an appearance in his latest stint with the O’s. He heads back to Norfolk with Trey Gibson recalled to start Wednesday’s game against the Rays.
  • BAL Starting Pitcher #72
He had a 10.13 ERA with the Orioles in 2 2/3 innings earlier in the year, but also has a 3.24 ERA in 16 2/3 innings between Triple-A Memphis and Norfolk this year. Raquet will keep getting chances in the Orioles bullpen shuttle.
  • BAL Starting Pitcher #72
The O’s needed to free up a spot on their active roster for Trey Gipson’s promotion on Sunday and unfortunately for Raquet he was the odd man out this time around. The 30-year-old southpaw posted a 10.13 ERA, 1.88 WHIP and a 1/2 K/BB ratio across 2 2/3 innings in his three appearances with the O’s.

Raquet has spent the past couple weeks in the minors after being acquired from the Cardinals in a small trade back in early April. The 30-year-old lefty has made four relief appearances in the big leagues since 2024. He’ll operate in middle relief situations for the Orioles.
  • BAL Starting Pitcher #72
The 30-year-old has thrown twice since being recalled and allowed three runs on three hits in 1 2/3 innings. He did throw 2/3 shutout innings on Tuesday, so it was nice for him to get that better second appearance.

Raquet was designated for assignment on Sunday, but the Orioles swung a deal to add him to their 40-man roster. With Albert Suarez being added to the MLB bullpen and Brandon Young getting a shot in the rotation, the Orioles could use a bit more pitching depth. There’s a chance that Raquet could be called up to fill a long relief role, which would allow the Orioles to send Cade Povich back to Triple-A, where he can remain stretched out as a starting pitcher.

The Phillies are hiring Peter Fatse as their hitting coach, sources told The Athletic.

Fatse worked from the Red Sox from 2019 until this April, when he was part of the purge that also resulted in Alex Cora’s removal. He had since served as a hitting consultant with the Rays. He’ll be replacing Kevin Long in Philadelphia.

Ryan Vilade is playing first base in his place tonight, and Nick Fortes is catching over Liam Hicks. Joey Loperfido had arthroscopic surgery on his right hip.

The Astros said that the surgery was to “address a labral injury and hip impingement that were identified shortly after the season ended.” Loperfido is not expected to miss time during the regular season, but he will be behind in spring training, which could make it hard for him to make the MLB roster out of camp.

Francisco Lindor was awarded the 2026 Roberto Clemente Award.

The Roberto Clemente Award, which began in 1971, “is the annual recognition of a Major League player who best represents the game of Baseball through extraordinary character, community involvement, philanthropy, and positive contributions, both on and off the field.” Every team nominates one player for the award, and a panel of former players, journalists, and executives decides on the winner. Lindor was chosen, in part, due to his support for his native Puerto Rico following Hurricanes Maria and Fiona, an annual back-to-school initiative he runs in Queens, support for the Children’s Miracle Network Hospitals, and the Lindor Leaders Program, which, in partnership with New Balance, is a “year-long leadership development initiative for students in Bayside High School’s Sports Medicine Program that focuses on mental health, communication, teamwork, and leadership.”

Free agent Michael Kelly is drawing interest from Japanese teams, says MassLive.com’s Chris Cotillo.

When he wasn’t serving a 162-game suspension for betting on baseball, Kelly was effective for the A’s in 2024 and ’25, amassing a 2.92 ERA in 70 innings between the two seasons. His 2026 was a total bust, though, and he sat out the second half after being released by the A’s. He’ll almost certainly have to take a minor league deal if he remains in the U.S.
