James Adkins pitched a scoreless innings Friday in his pro debut for low Single-A Great Lakes.
Adkins, a Tennessee product, was the 39th overall pick in the 2007 draft. If his first assignment is any indication, the Dodgers are putting him on the fast track.

Brewers LHP Kyle Harrison threw a kick change in his exhibition start against Great Britain.
This was a pitch that the Red Sox attempted to teach him last year, but apparently did not stick. Harrison got -6 to -8 inches of induced movement on it against Britain in the exhibition contest, throwing the pitch 10 times. He told reporters that a conversation with Hayden Birdsong led to different grips and eventually he managed to come to the Brewers with the pitch in his pocket. If Harrison can include this pitch in his regular repertoire, it’s possible he overperforms his ADP greatly this season.
Will Acuna challenge Ohtani for 2026 NL MVP?
While Shohei Ohtani is expected to retain his NL MVP title this season, Drew Dinsick and Jay Croucher explain why Ronald Acuna Jr. and Juan Soto could make the race tighter than expected.
  • NYM Starting Pitcher #26
Nolan McLean (illness) threw a simulated game, said he feels no symptoms, and is hoping to join Team USA in the next day or so.
He’s still on pace to make his WBC start against Italy. McLean was apparently suffering vertigo-like symptoms, but appears to have shaken his illness. He remains a fine target in the bottom half of the top-100 picks this season.
  • MIN Center Fielder
Twins reassigned OF Walker Jenkins, C/1B Andrew Cossetti, C/LF Ricardo Olivar, RHP Andrew Bash, RHP Raul Brito and LHP Christian MacLeod to minor league camp.
Jenkins suffered a hamstring injury and wasn’t playing anyway, so off to minor league camp he heads. The 2023 first-rounder has a good chance of being a fantasy force at some point, but will likely head to St. Paul for more seasoning in the minors before he’s ready to debut.
  • WSH Starting Pitcher #32
Trevor Williams (elbow) began his throwing progression.
Williams underwent an internal brace procedure on his UCL in July. It sounds like he’ll have a chance to return at some point this season, possibly by June or July. He made 25 throws at 60 feet in his first official action since surgery.
  • WSH Center Fielder #30
Nationals OF Jacob Young (wrist) is not doing any hitting.
Young has managed just two spring training at bats to this point, and the fact that he’s not hitting yet underlines that this injury could threaten the start of his season.
  • NYY Starting Pitcher #31
Yankees manager Aaron Boone said Cam Schlittler (back) is scheduled to start Friday against the Rays.
As expected all along, Boone continued to say Schlittler will likely be a bit behind at the start of the season. He could be built up to 65-80 pitches by then if all goes well. He’s not a priority scoop in fantasy leagues this year but has a high upside case if he can prove his health over the next few weeks.
  • WSH 1st Baseman #25
Nationals reassigned 1B Warming Bernabel, LHP Shinnosuke Ogasawara, OF Andrew Pinckney, IF Cayden Wallace, and UTL Phillip Glasser to minor league camp.
Bernabel had a shot at Washington’s first-base vacancy after coming over on a minor league deal, but it appears to be trending towards Abimelec Ortiz handling the job at the moment. Still just 23, Bernabel will likely play at AAA if he sticks with the Nationals.
  • SD 2nd Baseman #9
MLB.com’s AJ Cassavell believes Jake Cronenworth and Xander Bogaerts could platoon out of the leadoff spot for the Padres.
The Padres seem pretty comfortable with a 2-3-4 of Jackson Merrill, Manny Machado, and Fernando Tatis Jr., but the leadoff hitter spot has not been solidified yet by new manager Craig Stammen. If true, this would be a small boost for Cronenworth’s value — he would see the majority of the at-bats in a good lineup and could significantly bump his run total in 2026.
  • TB Center Fielder #31
Rays CF Cedric Mullins (back) was scratched from Wednesday’s Grapefruit League game with tightness.
It’s not exactly ominous, but back injuries are never great news and can linger. Jacob Melton is stepping in today for the Rays. The Rays should have an update on Mullins’ status in the near future.
  • CIN Pitcher #21
Reds manager Terry Francona said RHP Hunter Greene (elbow) will undergo an MRI.
Greene said that he has no UCL damage, but said he was dealing with elbow discomfort down the stretch in 2025. Francona elaborated that “He’s just not recovering the way he’s comfortable. The ball is coming out pretty good. You’re asking a guy to go out there and throw as hard as he can. We need to make sure he’s ok.” While Greene said that he “know[s]” he has bone spurs and added he hopefully “can still make a good amount of starts and not miss a really good chunk of the season and most importantly the playoff push.” This is all rather ominous news and Greene probably should come heavily discounted in drafts at the moment until we get a more definitive update.
