Former major leaguer Jim Leyritz was arrested in Florida on suspicion of drunken driving and vehicular homicide, WPLG-TV in Miami reported Friday.
Leyritz refused a Breathalyzer test, police said, after an accident that left the passenger in another car dead. The 44-year-old former Yankee has been out of the majors since 2000, though he briefly entertained the idea of a comeback a year ago.

Luis Robert Jr. (back) remains out of the lineup on Wednesday against the Nationals.
Robert Jr. is dealing with lower back tightness and has missed the last three games. It’s unclear if the Mets will put him on the injured list, but Tyrone Taylor will start in center field and sixth on Wednesday.
Add Phillips in fantasy with Fairbanks injured
Eric Samulski analyzes Pete Fairbanks being placed on the 15-day injured list with nerve irritation and previews how this will affected Tyler Phillips, who had his second save of the season Tuesday against the Dodgers.
  • NYY Starting Pitcher #45
Gerrit Cole (elbow) allowed three runs on three hits in 5 2/3 innings for Double-A Somerset on Wednesday.
Cole struck out three and didn’t walk anybody while throwing 45 of his 60 pitches for strikes. He did allow two home runs, which means he’s allowed four home runs in his three rehab starts, but the Yankees care far more about the health of his arm and his pitch count. Cole should push over 70 pitches in his next outing.
  • PIT Relief Pitcher #49
Pirates selected the contract of RHP Chris Devenski from Triple-A Indianapolis.
Devenski has been good at Triple-A this season, pitching to a 1.13 ERA, 0.75 WHIP, and 14/2 K/BB ratio in eight innings at Triple-A. He should add some veteran experience to the Pirates’ bullpen.
  • CHC Relief Pitcher #48
The Athletic’s Patrick Mooney reports that “Daniel Palencia (lat strain) has made enough progress that the team is considering activating him Friday.”
This is the first update we’ve had on Palencia since he was put on the injured list back on April 17th. It seems that Palencia won’t need a rehab assignment before returning to the Cubs. We’ll wait to see if Palencia can progress enough to actually return this weekend, but it seems like he’s not far off. That would take away most of the fantasy value for Ben Brown and Phil Maton.
  • PIT Starting Pitcher #84
Pirates designated RHP Ryan Harbin for assignment.
Harbin is currently on the 60-day IL with a lat injury and had a 4.69 ERA in 63 1/3 minor league innings last year. The Pirates needed room on the 40-man roster for Chris Devenski.
  • CIN Relief Pitcher #47
Reds recalled RHP Luis Mey from Triple-A Louisville.
Mey has a 4.91 ERA, 1.45 WHIP, and 14/3 K/BB ratio in 11 innings at Triple-A this season. He has a 3.43 ERA in 21 career MLB innings.
  • CIN Relief Pitcher #23
Reds placed RHP Graham Ashcraft on the bereavement list.
We hope the best for Ashcraft and his family. He should be out for a few games and could return to the Reds’ bullpen this weekend.
  • CWS Starting Pitcher #68
White Sox RHP prospect Tanner McDougal left his Triple-A start with right forearm tightness.
McDougal is the 86th-ranked prospect in all of baseball, according to Baseball America, and a consensus Top 10 prospect in the White Sox’s system. He has a 3.13 ERA, 1.09 WHIP, and 26/13 K/BB ratio in 23 innings at Triple-A this season. The White Sox will hope that the forearm tightness is not a precursor to a more significant injury.
  • MIA Catcher #34
Liam Hicks is starting at catcher and batting fifth on Wednesday against the Dodgers.
Hicks was a late scratch on Tuesday with an illness, but he will just miss one game and be back in the lineup. Agustin Ramirez is out of the lineup with Kyle Stowers at DH and Esteury Ruiz starting in left field and batting ninth.
  • COL 2nd Baseman #3
Willi Castro (knee) is back in the starting lineup for the Rockies on Wednesday against the Reds
Castro has missed the last four games with a knee injury, but he’ll be back in the lineup at second base and hitting fifth on Wednesday. Since a left-hander pitcher is on the mound, Edouard Julien will shift to the bench, as will Troy Johnston and Jake McCarthy, with Jordan Beck and Brenton Doyle in the lineup and batting first and second, respectively.
