Reds acquired RHP Stephen Johnson from the Giants for OF Marlon Byrd and cash considerations.
Johnson has pitched exclusively as a reliever in the minors, posting a 3.68 ERA with 10.6 K/9 and 4.9 BB/9 over 157 appearances. He has a big arm, but control has been an issue for him. The 24-year-old has been pitching at the Double-A level this year.

    Mariners released C Andrew Knizner.
Knizner will head out to the open market after the Mariners decided to roll with veteran Mitch Garver as Cal Raleigh’s primary caddy this spring. The 31-year-old backstop got into 33 games for the Giants last year. He should be able to latch on somewhere as emergency catching depth.
Brown, Cease sneaky picks to win AL Cy Young award
Jay Croucher and Trysta Krick predict who will win the American League Cy Young award, sharing why Astros pitcher Hunter Brown is a good bet and Blue Jays starter Dylan Cease has "killer stuff" and a "lot of upside."
  • SEA Starting Pitcher #68
George Kirby will start on Friday against the Rays.
Kirby put together a phenomenal spring, flashing an uptick in velocity, and will get the ball after Logan Gilbert takes his turn on Opening Day at T-Mobile Park. He’ll be followed by Bryan Woo and Emerson Hancock over the weekend before Luis Castillo makes his season debut against the Yankees on Monday.
  • BAL 2nd Baseman #7
Jackson Holliday (hand) will begin a minor league rehab assignment on Friday with Triple-A Norfolk.
Holliday is trending towards an early-season return to Baltimore’s lineup after suffering a hamate fracture in his right wrist earlier this spring. The 22-year-old former top prospect, who was officially placed on the 10-day injured list earlier on Wednesday, will get a couple rehab contests under his belt before making his season debut.
  • MIA Left Fielder #29
Marlins signed OF Austin Slater to a one-year contract.
The deal is now official. Slater heads to Miami as a southpaw-mashing platoon specialist to pair with left-handed corner outfielders Owen Caissie and Griffin Conine. The 33-year-old veteran is a strong bench bat but he can be safely ignored in all fantasy formats.
  • BAL Relief Pitcher #66
Orioles recalled RHP Anthony Nunez from Triple-A Norfolk.
Nunez winds up landing a spot in Baltimore’s season-opening bullpen after being shipped to the minors earlier this month. The 24-year-old was added to the club’s 40-man roster during the offseason after compiling an impressive 2.06 ERA and 83/24 K/BB ratio across 56 2/3 innings over 49 appearances across three minor-league levels last year
  • MIA Left Fielder #3
Marlins placed OF Esteury Ruiz on the 10-day injured list with a left oblique strain.
Ruiz is expected to miss 6-8 weeks after being diagnosed with a left oblique strain earlier this week. The 27-year-old speedster projects as a reserve outfielder for the Marlins once he’s back up and running.
  • BAL 3rd Baseman #11
Orioles placed 3B Jordan Westburg on the 10-day injured list with a right elbow UCL sprain.
Orioles president Mike Elias told reporters over the weekend that Westburg was unlikely to be ready to return by the start of May. The 27-year-old infielder was diagnosed with a partially torn UCL back in late February and opted to go the rest and rehabilitation route instead of surgery. There should be a more definitive return timetable once he’s cleared to resume baseball activities.
  • BAL Relief Pitcher #39
Orioles placed RHP Andrew Kittredge on the 15-day injured list with right shoulder inflammation.
Kittredge has already progressed to throwing bullpen sessions after missing time earlier in camp with shoulder inflammation. He’ll kick off a minor league rehab assignment with Triple-A Norfolk shortly after Opening Day. The 36-year-old veteran setup specialist will help bridge the gap to newly-minted Orioles closer Ryan Helsley this season.
  • NYM Right Fielder #3
Mets selected the contract of OF Carson Benge from Triple-A Syracuse.
It’s official. Benge seemingly locked up his spot on New York’s season-opening roster when veteran Mike Tauchman suffered a knee injury over the weekend. The 23-year-old top prospect put together an outstanding spring performance after hitting .281/.385/.462 with 15 homers and 22 steals over 116 games across three minor-league levels last year. He’ll make his big-league debut on Thursday afternoon against the Pirates.
  • NYM Relief Pitcher #33
Mets placed LHP A.J. Minter on the 15-day injured list.
Minter has already progressed to facing hitters and could be back in New York’s relief mix sooner than later. The 32-year-old southpaw is working his way back from last May’s lat surgery.
