Joel de la Cruz allowed just one run over 5 2/3 frames but took a loss against the Twins on Tuesday.

The Twins got to de la Cruz with a run in the first inning, but the right-hander settled in after that, ultimately giving up just four hits and two walks while striking out four. Unfortunately for him, Ervin Santana just pitched a bit better. De la Cruz faces the Nationals the next time out.

Devers had been limited to being the team’s designated hitter after battling through a hamstring issue that cropped up at the end of spring training. It sounds like all is well now though and he’s ready to handle his position defensively once again. Jerar Encarnacion will serve as the team’s designated hitter on Sunday and will bat seventh against Kodai Senga and the Mets.

Brendan Donovan (groin) remains out of the Mariners’ starting lineup for Sunday’s battle against the Angels.

Donovan will go through pregame drills on the field on Sunday, but he wants to be extra cautious after undergoing double sports hernia surgery last year. He’s encouraged that his MRI came back clean and is expected to avoid the injured list, it’s just going to take him another day or two before he rejoins the lineup.

AZ Starting Pitcher #29

Diamondbacks’ skipper Torey Lovullo told reporters on Sunday that Merrill Kelly (back) will make one additional minor league rehab start before joining the team’s rotation.

Kelly looked sharp in his latest start at Triple-A Reno on Friday, hurling five scoreless innings while getting up to 72 pitches. He’ll make one more start there this week and as long as everything goes smoothly, he’ll join the D’Backs for their road trip against the Orioles in Baltimore.

Pete Fairbanks

MIA Relief Pitcher #29

Pete Fairbanks will work as an opener for the Marlins on Sunday against the Yankees.

Fairbanks is expected to hit the paternity list following Sunday’s game as he joins his wife to welcome a new addition to their family. With the start of the game being delayed by rain though, they’ll make sure he gets his work in early before leaving. Fantasy managers should plan to be without him for the first couple of days next week.

Juan Soto

NYM Right Fielder #22

Juan Soto (calf) remained out of the Mets’ starting lineup for Sunday’s series finale against the Giants.

It’s the second straight start that Soto has missed after suffering a mild right calf strain during Friday’s contest. It’s encouraging that he has yet to be placed on the injured list, but that could change if he’s not ready to go for Tuesday’s series opener against the Diamondbacks.

NYM 3rd Baseman #7

Brett Baty was scratched from the Mets’ starting lineup for Sunday’s game against the Giants.

No word yet on the reason for the late scratch. Jared Young will take his place in right field and will bat fifth against Giants’ right-hander Logan Webb on Sunday. Look for the Mets to provide an update on Baty’s status at some point before the end of the day.

Joey Lucchesi

LAA Relief Pitcher #67

Angels designated LHP Joey Lucchesi for assignment.

Lucchesi struggled in his three appearances out of the Angels’ bullpen, posting a miserable 7.71 ERA, 3.43 WHIP and a 2/4 K/BB ratio over 2 1/3 innings. He has had enough success at the big league level that another bullpen-needy team may be willing to take a chance on him on waivers.

George Klassen

LAA Starting Pitcher
Angels selected the contract of RHP George Klassen from Triple-A Salt Lake.

Left-hander Joey Lucchesi was designated for assignment in a corresponding move. Klassen will be thrown right into the fire for the Angels, starting on Sunday against the Mariners. It’s unclear if Ryan Johnson is being bumped from the rotation entirely after his poor season debut, or simply getting pushed back. Klassen, 24, posted a 6.43 ERA, 1.36 WHIP and a 14/9 K/BB ratio over 14 innings during five appearances in Cactus League play.

Austin Riley

ATL 3rd Baseman #27
Austin Riley is not in the Braves’ starting lineup for Sunday’s series finale against the Diamondbacks.

It’s the first day off on the season for the 29-year-old slugger, though he may still appear as a pinch-hitter in a critical spot off the bench. Mauricio Dubon will start in his place at the hot corner and bat seventh while Jorge Mateo draws a start at shortstop and will hit ninth against Brandon Pfaadt and the Diamondbacks.

Twins optioned RHP Zak Kent to Triple-A St. Paul.

Kent was hit hard in his first two outings for the Twins, posting a 4.91 ERA, 2.46 WHIP and a cringe-inducing 2/5 K/BB ratio over 3 2/3 innings. He’ll try to work through his command issues at the Triple-A level.
