Dozier provided some depth while Robinson Cano was out, but there’s not a need for him now that Cano is back. He’ll clear waivers but might elect free agency.

Hinch basically dismissed any internet speculation that Skubal was going to jump back into Detroit’s rotation next week without a rehab assignment after undergoing an innovative NanoScope procedure earlier this month to remove loose bodies from his elbow. The 29-year-old fantasy ace has already completed a bullpen session and could be ready to make a minor league rehab start by the end of May or early June. It’s a bit unclear how many tune-up outings he’ll require, but it’ll be at least one. It doesn’t sound like his return is imminent, but he’s definitely going to make it back to Detroit faster than anticipated at the time of the surgery.

Yankees manager Aaron Boone told reporters Domínguez remains without a firm return timeline after hitting the injured list with an AC sprain in his left shoulder back on May 8. The injury wound up happening at the worst possible time for the 23-year-old former top prospect since he would’ve had an extended opportunity with the Yankees since Giancarlo Stanton remains in a holding pattern in his recovery from a calf strain.

It sounds like the Tigers want to be absolutely certain that Melton is ready from a physical standpoint before making a final decision. The 25-year-old righty struck out six and completed five innings in his latest rehab outing at Low-A Lakeland earlier this week. It sounds like he’s on track to make his season debut early next week, which makes him a worthwhile stash in deeper fantasy leagues.

Feduccia’s homer off Shane Baz came in his 182nd plate appearance since he debuted with the Dodgers in 2024. He’s up to .278/.365/.370 in 65 plate appearances on the season, which is pretty encouraging in light of how much he struggled for the Rays last year (.151/.265/.209 in 102 plate appearances). He was taking a backseat to Nick Fortes initially this season, but he’s now getting the nod most of the time against right-handers.

Matz, who returned from elbow inflammation without a rehab assignment, left a 1-1 game after throwing 67 pitches. Jesse Scholtens followed and allowed two runs over four innings, resulting in a win for him after the Rays scored four times in the eighth. Matz should be ready to throw five innings next time out, and he’ll make for an intriguing mixed-league play with starts against the Orioles and Angels next week.

Taylor Ward lined out to center before Gunnar Henderson and Adley Rutschman grounded out in a two-run game. Seymour got to close today in place of Bryan Baker, who didn’t pitch after working three of the previous four days. Seymour has a 4.81 ERA in 24 1/3 innings, though his 27/8 K/BB is fine and he’s allowed only three homers and 21 hits.

Baz thrived while facing his former team for the first time, finishing with six strikeouts. He left with a 3-1 lead after six, but that got blown by Anthony Nunez in the eighth. It’s Baz’s second straight quality start after he went without one in his first eight outings for the Orioles, and he lowered his ERA to 4.87. He’s slated to face the Rays again next week in Baltimore.

Simpson earned the leadoff spot against righties with a fast start last month, but he’s hit just .234/.271/.281 in his last 32 games. At this rate, the Rays might soon drop Simpson in the order and try Richie Palacios at the top spot.

Alonso hit balls 111.8, 108.5 and 106.8 mph today. With his average bat speed up nearly one mph from last month, he’s batting .276/.316/.546 with five homers in May.

Holliday hit for Weston Wilson in the sixth, played one inning of third base and then moved to second after Colton Cowser entered the game in Jeremiah Jackson’s place and Blaze Alexander moved from the outfield to the infield. Holliday played three games at third base during his rehab assignment for a broken hamate bone. His only other experience there was two games in 2023. Holliday will probably be back at second base Friday after the off day on Thursday.
