According to MLB.com’s Anthony DiComo, free agent Yoenis Cespedes “showed off impressive power and arm strength” during his showcase in Florida on Tuesday.
DiComo adds that “close to a dozen teams” were in attendance for the workout, including the Blue Jays, Brewers, Rays, Tigers, Padres, and White Sox. It was a quiet winter for the 35-year-old slugger, who went just 5-for-31 (.161) in eight games last summer with the Mets before opting out of the remainder of the season in early August. A scout in attendance Tuesday suggested to DiComo that Cespedes “could go be someone’s DH” but probably lacks the overall mobility at this point in his career to be a regular starting outfielder.

Diamondbacks signed RHP Michael Soroka to a one-year, $7.5 million contract.
Soroka will join the Diamondbacks after forging a 4.87 ERA in 2025 in his time with the Nationals and Cubs, respectively. The 28-year-old was much better than that in the second half, however, and Arizona will hope to see that version as a member of their rotation in 2026.
Fallout of Alonso's reported signing with BAL
Eric Samulski dives into Pete Alonso's reported signing with the Baltimore Orioles and what fantasy managers can expect as he shifts to Camden Yards.
  • ARI Relief Pitcher #40
Diamondbacks designated RHP Bryce Jarvis for assignment.
Jarvis was the 18th pick of the 2020 MLB Draft, and he didn’t have much success in his time at the highest level. The 27-year-old will now hit the waiver wire, and if he goes unclaimed he could report back to Triple-A Reno or elect free agency.
  • CWS Relief Pitcher #50
White Sox claimed LHP Ryan Rolison off waivers from the Braves.
Rolison was designated for assignment by Atlanta on Thursday, and the claim happens just a day later. The former first-round pick will be at risk of hitting the waiver wire again if/when Chicago adds another player to the 40-man roster.
  • LAD Center Fielder #22
Dodgers claimed OF Michael Siani off waivers from the Braves.
Siani, 26, was designated for assignment by Atlanta after the team signed Mike Yastrzemski. The outfielder is a terrific defender, and he should be a late-inning option for Los Angeles in 2026 — assuming he sticks in the organization, of course.
  • FA Relief Pitcher #54
Chris Cotillo of MassLive reports that the Red Sox are showing interest in Danny Coulombe.
Cotillo writes that the Red Sox are trying to add a left-hander to their bullpen, and notes that Justin Wilson is also a target of the team, among others. Coulombe struggled and dealt with an injury after being dealt to Texas at the deadline, but he’s been one of the better southpaw relievers over the past few seasons prior to those scuffles.
  • FA Left Fielder #24
Multiple outlets report that the Marlins have signed Christopher Morel to a one-year contract.
Ken Rosenthal notes that the expectation is that he will play first base in 2026. Morel was non-tendered by the Rays after slashing just .208/.277/.355 over 154 games in Tampa Bay. The 26-year-old will have a chance to earn consistent playing time with Miami and offers some power upside, but there’s more risk than reward in his profile.
  • KC 3rd Baseman #11
Jeff Passan of ESPN reports that the Royals are signing Maikel Garcia to a five-year contract extension.
Passan notes that the extension will also have a club option for a sixth season. Garcia was excellent in 2025 with a .286/.351/449 slash along with 16 homers and 23 stolen bases over his 160 games. He also was a deserved Gold Glove winner at third base, and he and Bobby Witt Jr. will make up one of the better left sides of an infield for the foreseeable future.
  • KC Shortstop #10
Royals signed INF Kevin Newman to a minor league contract with an invitation to spring training.
Newman will get a chance to win a job with the Royals in spring training. The former first-round pick was atrocious in his limited action with the Angels last year as seen in a slash of .202/.209/.272.
  • CLE Manager #21
Jeff Passan of ESPN reports that Stephen Vogt was signed to a contract extension after the 2024 season.
Vogt and the Guardians never made the news public, but the winner of back-to-back AL Manager of the Year awards will not have 2026 be the final year of his contract. The 41-year-old will be tasked with trying to get Cleveland into the postseason for a third-consecutive season this summer.
  • CWS Center Fielder #88
Jon Heyman of the New York Post reports that the Mets have “checked in” on a potential trade for Luis Robert Jr.
Robert has been the subject of trade speculation over the last few years, but it appears this winter we might see the White Sox actually pull the trigger. The Mets would make sense, but Heyman notes that in order for New York to give up their top prospects, the White Sox would need to send some cash back. That’s not a very Jerry Reinsdorf thing to do. The Padres have also been mentioned as a potential landing spot for Robert, among others.
