Marlins RHP prospect Zach McCambley struck out 11 over 5 2/3 innings for Double-A Pensacola on Wednesday.
McCambley allowed just two hits -- one of them a homer -- and issued two walks. The right-hander has had a tough go of it for most of the 2022 campaign, as this ‘lowered’ his ERA to 5.30 EA in his 73 innings with the Blue Wahoos. There’s no questonining McCambley’s stuff, he has one of the best curveballs in the minors, and that’s not hyperbole. He also has an above-average fastball and average change, but the command has gone backwards as seen in 38 walks. If he can throw enough (quality) strikes he has a chance to pitch as a mid-rotation arm, but there’s no denying the volatility in his profile.

Agustín Ramírez is at catcher and leading off Saturday’s game against the Giants.
It’s a bizarre-looking lineup from manager Skip Schumaker with Ramírez entering the leadoff spot while Jakob Marsee draws out of the lineup for the first time this season. Esteury Ruiz is making his first start of the year in center field. The 24-year-old power/speed combo backstop is off to a frosty start at the dish, hitting .226/.298/.366 with two homers, 12 RBI and one steal through 25 games.
Who will play shortstop for Mets with Lindor hurt?
James Schiano talks about the "suddenly surging" Mets, analyzing how they will recover from "ironman" Francisco Lindor suffering a calf strain and sharing why New York is "in a bit of a pickle" at the shortstop position.
  • CLE Center Fielder #38
Steven Kwan was scratched from the lineup for Saturday’s game against the Blue Jays with neck stiffness.
Angel Martínez takes over in center field and will hit leadoff on Saturday afternoon in his place. It sounds like a precautionary move since Kwan also sat out Friday’s series opener, but was in Saturday’s initial lineup. The 28-year-old outfielder is hitting .227/.315/.289 with one homer, eight RBI and two steals in 25 games. There should be some additional clarity on his status at some point this weekend. Fantasy managers should consider him day-to-day for now.
  • CIN 2nd Baseman #0
Brandon Phillips announced his retirement from professional baseball.
Phillips technically has been unofficially retired for a couple years but he’s signed a ceremonial one-day contract to retire with Cincinnati where he spent 11 seasons from 2006-2016. He last appeared in the big leagues for the Red Sox back in 2018 before spending a couple years kicking around the independent leagues. The 44-year-old second baseman finishes a nearly two-decade run with a .275/.320/.420 slash line with 211 homers and 209 steals in 1,902 games from 2002-2018.
  • TB Right Fielder #17
Jake Fraley (leg) is in the lineup for Saturday’s game against the Twins.
Fraley is back in right field and hitting fifth following a brief two-game absence due to a right leg contusion. The 30-year-old will continue serving in a righty-mashing platoon role.
  • CWS Catcher #3
White Sox selected the contract of C Drew Romo from Triple-A Charlotte.
Romo gets the call to join Chicago’s active roster in a backup role with the club deciding to move on from veteran Reese McGuire. The 24-year-old catcher got into 19 games for the Rockies over the past two years, hitting .167 (9-for-54) during that span.
  • CWS Catcher #30
White Sox designated C Reese McGuire for assignment.
Chicago is pulling the plug on the McGuire experiment after he went 5-for-29 with three RBI in 11 games. The well-traveled 31-year-old signed a one-year pact following Kyle Teel’s hamstring injury last month.
  • TOR Starting Pitcher #39
Trey Yesavage (shoulder) will be activated to make his season debut against the Red Sox on Tuesday.
Blue Jays skipper John Schneider made it official that Yesavage will return to Toronto’s injury-decimated rotation with Eric Lauer going to the bullpen. The other ripple effect is Dylan Cease being pushed back to Monday with Patrick Corbin starting Sunday against Cleveland. The 22-year-old top pitching prospect is unlikely to shoulder a significant workload early on, but he still offers enough strikeout upside to warrant a roster spot in all fantasy formats.
  • STL Center Fielder #11
Victor Scott II is in center field and batting ninth on Saturday against the Mariners.
It’s fair to wonder how much longer the Cardinals will continue sticking with Scott, despite his defensive abilities, since he’s hitting .197/.254/.213 with three steals in 24 games this season. They have top prospect Joshua Báez, who has homered five times in 21 games at Triple-A Memphis this season, waiting on the doorstep of the majors if they decide to make a change in the near future. Báez is striking out nearly 30 percent of the time and could use some additional seasoning, but Scott’s lack of production figures to shorten his timeline to the big leagues.
  • CWS Catcher #8
White Sox general manager Chris Getz told reporters Kyle Teel (hamstring) has not been cleared for a minor league rehab assignment.
Getz elaborated that the White Sox are opting to proceed with an abundance of caution with Teel’s ramp-up process given how much time he’s missed recovering from a hamstring strain during last month’s World Baseball Classic. The 24-year-old backstop figures to be cleared at some point soon to head to Triple-A Charlotte, but fantasy managers shouldn’t anticipate him back until at least early May.
  • WSH 1st Baseman #87
Nationals recalled 1B Andrés Chaparro from Triple-A Rochester.
Chaparro returns in a bench role for the Nationals after getting into three contests last month at the outset of the season. The 26-year-old has homered three times in 18 games at Triple-A Rochester. He can be safely ignored in fantasy leagues for now.
