Jared Young will bat seventh as the designated hitter as the Cubs kick off their final home series of the season on Friday afternoon against the Rockies.
Young was recalled from Triple-A on Tuesday and made an immediate impact with a pinch-hit triple that drove in a run, that evening against the Pirates. He’s stationed first base in 13 of his previous 14 games with the Cubs this season but will be the designated hitter on Friday. The remainder of the Cubs lineup is familiar while Miles Mastrobuoni will play third base for a third straight game and Miguel Amaya will crouch behind the plate to receive pitches from Jameson Taillon.

José Berríos (elbow) is scheduled to throw a bullpen session on Tuesday.
Berríos will progress to facing hitters in a live batting practice session later this week. The 31-year-old veteran starter hit the injured list at the end of spring training with a stress fracture in his elbow. He’ll need a few rehab starts to rebuild his pitch count and stamina, but could return to Toronto’s rotation mix by late April or early May.
Look to add Mariners SP Hancock off waiver wires
Eric Samulski reacts to Emerson Hancock's "impressive" season debut for the Seattle Mariners against the Cleveland Guardians and breaks down how he looks like a "different version" of himself in his first start.
  • TOR Starting Pitcher #57
Shane Bieber (elbow) is scheduled to throw a bullpen session on Saturday.
It’s a significant step for Bieber as he continues to work his way back from offseason forearm fatigue that led to a season-opening stint on the injured list with elbow inflammation. The 30-year-old former fantasy ace was a revelation during last year’s postseason and could make a significant fantasy impact this season, but only if he’s healthy. There should be a clearer return timetabe for Bieber once he progresses to facing hitters and is ultimately cleared to head out on a minor league rehab assignment.
  • TOR Starting Pitcher #39
Trey Yesavage (shoulder) is scheduled to throw a three-inning simulated game on Friday.
Yesavage is aiming for roughly 45 pitches as he continues to progress towards his season debut after being slowed by shoulder inflammation during spring training. The 22-year-old top pitching prospect will require at least a brief minor league tune-up before he rejoins Toronto’s injury-marred rotation, which looked outstanding during their season-opening series against the Athletics. Yesavage offers sky-high strikeout upside and projects as one of the most impactful young arms in the game from a fantasy perspective.
  • HOU Shortstop #3
Jeremy Peña is not in the lineup for Monday’s series opener against the Red Sox.
Peña takes a seat for the third time in five games to open the regular season as Houston continues to closely manage his ramp-up after missing the final few weeks of spring training with a fractured finger. It’s a tough situation for fantasy managers but the positive is that he’s healthy and able to contribute at all. It’ll be Carlos Correa back at shortstop and Isaac Paredes at the hot corner for Monday’s series opener at Daikin Park.
  • HOU Relief Pitcher #58
Astros selected the contract of RHP Cody Bolton from Triple-A Sugar Land.
Bolton fortifies Houston’s relief mix ahead of Monday’s series opener against the Red Sox. The 27-year-old reliever was in camp as a non-roster invitee after spending last year with the Guardians and Mariners.
  • HOU Relief Pitcher #39
Astros transferred RHP Hayden Wesneski to the 60-day injured list.
Wesneski is still recovering from Tommy John surgery, which he underwent last May, and isn’t expected to be an option for Houston’s pitching mix until the later stages of the year. The procedural move frees up a spot on the club’s 40-man roster.
  • MIL Shortstop #87
The Brewers and shortstop prospect Cooper Pratt are close to finalizing an eight-year contract extension, reports USA Today’s Bob Nightengale
Nightengale adds that the long-term agreement, if it gets across the finish line, will be worth more than $50 million and contains a pair of club options worth roughly $15 million per-season. It’s a significant, virtually unprecedented, financial commitment for a highly touted prospect that has played just 123 games above High-A. The 21-year-old projects as Milwaukee’s shortstop of the future and could ascend to the big leagues at some point later this year, especially if the Brewers decide to move defensive wizard Joey Ortiz into a utility role. He’ll settle in as one of the club’s future franchise building blocks alongside fellow top middle infield prospects Jesús Made and Luis Peña.
  • BAL Catcher #29
Samuel Basallo is out of the lineup on Monday against the Rangers.
This seems like just a routine day off for Basallo. Adley Rutschman will catch with Tyler O’Neill sliding to designated hitter and Dylan Beavers staying in the lineup in right field.
  • SF 2nd Baseman #49
Giants designated INF Tyler Fitzgerald for assignment.
After bursting onto the scene in 2024 and slashing .280/.334/.497 with 15 home runs and 17 steals in 341 plate appearances, Fitzgerald has been unable to sustain much fantasy success. With the team acquiring reliever Dylan Smith, they needed to make room on the 40-man roster, so Fitzgerald was let go.
  • MIL Right Fielder #29
Brewers acquired OF Luis Matos from Giants for cash considerations.
The 24-year-old Matos, who is out of options and was DFA’d last week, has slashed .231/.281/.369 in 593 MLB plate appearances. The Brewers figure to have him replace Blace Perkins, who opened up in the minors before being recalled as Andrew Vaughn’s replacement, and can give him some starts in left field against left-handers.
