Twins manager Rocco Baldelli didn’t commit to a Game 2 catcher Tuesday after giving Ryan Jeffers the nod in Game 1.
Baldelli has spent the last five months nearly always alternating Jeffers and Christian Vázquez behind the plate. We were hoping that would change in October, given how much better Jeffers has been than Vázquez, and it still might, since Baldelli didn’t commit to Vázquez in Game 2. Jeffers finished the year with an OPS 260 points higher than Vázquez (.858 to .598), and Twins pitchers also fared better throwing to Jeffers (3.61 ERA, .665) compared to Vázquez (4.09 ERA, .723 OPS).
