    Mets signed C Yovanny Rodriguez.
The deal is reportedly for $2.85 million. Rodriguez is the sixth-ranked international prospect, according to MLB Pipeline, but some people think he could emerge as the best player from this class. He is an advanced catching prospect with a good defensive approach and framing and footwork that are advanced for his age. He also has plus arm-strength and great hands, which also carries over on offense with strong bat-to-ball skills with power potential.

J.P. Crawford (shoulder) is hitting fifth as the designated hitter Wednesday against the Angels.
Crawford will make his spring debut, albeit as the DH instead of his usual shortstop position. The 31-year-old has battled a “minor” shoulder issue ahd should be fine by the team the regular season rolls around. It’s likely Crawford’s last year as the starting shortstop for Seattle with Colt Emerson taking over in 2027.
Target Abreu late for fantasy RP amid Hader injury
Eric Samulski and James Schiano look at the 'landmine-y' world of fantasy relief pitchers and explain why Josh Hader's injury gives Bryan Abreu a massive boost in value.

Francisco Lindor (hand) played catch Monday.
Jon Heyman of the New York Post reports that the hope is that Lindor will be able to take batting practice Wednesday. The star shortstop underwent hamata bone surgery in the offeseason, and recently had his stitches removed. There’s a good chance Lindor will be ready for the start of the regular season, and if not, it should be a relatively short stint on the injured list to begin 2026.

Nolan McLean hasn’t reported to camp with Team USA as of yet due to illness.
McLean is scheduled to start against Italy on Monday, but the right-hander will obviously need to get healthy for that to take place. The good news for fantasy managers is that there’s no reason to think McLean won’t be ready for the start of the regular season.
  • NYY Right Fielder #27
Giancarlo Stanton will hit fourth as the designated hitter Tuesday against Team Panama.
Stanton is still working through his tennis elbow injury — something that is going to likely be an issue for the rest of his career — but it’s encouraging to see him in the lineup relatively early in the Grapefruit League. When healthy, Stanton still offers significant power production potential, but he’s essentially a lock to miss significant time on the injured list at this stage.
  • ATL Relief Pitcher #24
Braves signed LHP Kyle Nelson to a minor league contract.
Nelson hit free agency at the conclusion of last season after being removed from Arizona’s 40-man roster. The 29-year-old southpaw bolsters Atlanta’s organizational relief depth after posting a serviceable 4.34 ERA – 4.26 xERA – 1.31 WHIP and 115/45 K/BB ratio across 116 innings over 136 appearances in the majors since 2020.
  • SEA Catcher #28
Mariners re-signed C Jacob Nottingham to a minor league contract.
Nottingham hasn’t appeared in the majors since 2021 and strictly qualifies as emergency catching depth at this stage of his journeyman career. The 30-year-old backstop got into just 16 games for Triple-A Tacoma last year.
  • LAD Center Fielder #65
Dodgers sent OF Jack Suwinski outright to Triple-A Oklahoma City.
It qualifies as a massive surprise that Suwinski passed through waivers unclaimed. He’ll remain with the Dodgers as organizational outfield depth heading into the regular season. The 27-year-old was gobbled up from the Pirates last month as a potential reclamation project. The procedural move frees up a spot on Los Angeles’ 40-man roster.
  • TOR Starting Pitcher #31
Blue Jays re-signed RHP Max Scherzer to a one-year, $3 million contract.
Scherzer returning for a 19th season feels less like a transaction and more like a reminder that certain careers refuse to fade quietly. The deal is now official, bringing the 41-year-old future Hall of Famer back to Toronto, where he adds experienced depth to a contending rotation. The surface numbers from last season — 5.19 ERA (4.62 xERA) with a 1.29 WHIP and 82/23 K/BB ratio over 85 innings across 17 starts — were pedestrian in nature, though his postseason performance looked far more familiar. Scherzer may no longer be a relevant fantasy contributor at this stage of his legendary career, but he remains the type of presence who can bend a playoff series in subtle, consequential ways.
  • TEX Starting Pitcher #48
Jacob deGrom will make his spring debut on Wednesday in an exhibition game against Team Brazil.
It’s happening. Rangers manager Skip Schumaker told reporters over the weekend that deGrom was close to making his spring debut following a 30-pitch bullpen session. The 37-year-old veteran managed to stay healthy last year for his first 30-start season since 2019. We’re skeptical he’ll repeat the feat but the Rangers clearly have a plan in place to slow-play his ramp-up process.
  • KC Left Fielder #6
Royals signed OF Starling Marte to a one-year, $1 million contract.
The deal is now official. MLB.com’s Anne Rogers reports Marte can earn an additional $2 million with active roster and performance bonuses. The 37-year-old veteran provides Kansas City with another complementary right-handed platoon partner for either Jac Caglianone in right field or Carter Jensen at DH. He spent the last four years with the Mets and batted .270/.335/.410 with nine homers and seven steals in 98 games in a part-time role this past season.
