This will be Allen’s third stint with the Yankees, as he got into 15 games with the team in 2021 and 22 last season before he was let go. He’s actually hit a fine .250/.387/.450 in his 76 plate appearances for the Bombers, giving him an .837 OPS that is about 250 points higher than he’s amassed in his 752 plate appearances with other teams. There’s the chance he could make the team as a fifth outfielder, but it doesn’t seem particularly likely.

That doesn’t sound great. Seranthony Domínguez, who pitched a scoreless eighth in front of Muñoz today, could get some saves during the final week of the season. Eduardo Bazardo wound up with the save today for getting two outs after Muñoz departed.

Burger’s home run was his 27th of the season. He hit a two-run shot off Spencer Arrighetti in the fourth inning. Burger has knocked in five runs over his last five games. He’s hitting .233 with a .735 OPS and 88 RBI, which is pretty much what was expected of Burger prior to the year.

Robbie Ray is getting pushed back. This puts King in position to start the finale on Sunday if it’s a must-win game. The Padres, though, would surely prefer to hold King back for the Wild Card opener.

It’s Williams’ fifth scoreless start of the year, and he has two others in which he allowed just one unearned run. With nine strikeouts, he now leads the majors at 244, one more than Jacob Misiorowski. Williams is in line to make his final start Saturday, but the Guardians could tweak things based on how things are lining up for the playoffs. If the Guardians clinch the AL Central, then Williams could have a relatively normal start next weekend. However, if they fall into Wild Card position, then they would need Williams to start on Tuesday or Wednesday next week.

Smith was called on after Hunter Gaddis gave up a pair of hits in the eighth. He struck out Henry Bolte to end the threat and then got two more K’s in the ninth. That brings his total to 103 strikeouts in 71 1/3 innings this season. He finished with 104 in 73 2/3 innings last year and 103 in 75 1/3 innings as a rookie in 2024. Mason Miller is in line to smash some salary records as an arbitration-eligible reliever in the coming years, but Smith shouldn’t come in too far behind.

Perkins fell to 3-12 in spite of the fine performance. He’s 1-10 with a 6.03 ERA and a 98/41 K/BB over 88 innings in 19 starts since moving into the rotation at the beginning of June. He figures to make his final start Saturday against the Astros.

Ramírez doubled to begin the fourth, advanced to third on a flyout and scored on Jo Adell’s tapper in front of the plate. The steal, his 35th of the year, came later in the eighth. He’s seventh in the majors in steals, and with just four caught stealings, he has the best success rate of any of the 12 players with 30 steals.

deGrom gave up five hits, walked four and struck out two. His two strikeouts tie a season-low mark and both of those instances have happened in his last six starts. The last time deGrom had two strikeouts, he allowed one hit and had eight strikeouts in seven scoreless innings in his next outing. He’ll have one more chance to bounce back next weekend against the Twins on the road.

Arrighetti entered the game in the fourth inning as the bulk pitcher. He allowed two runs in 2 1/3 innings. Arrighetti was fortunate to pick up the win considering he wasn’t exactly lights out on the mound. He’s not scheduled for another start or bulk appearance at this time, so he won’t have any fantasy value in the final week of the regular season.
