Padres signed LHP Wandy Peralta to a four-year, $16.5 million contract.

The deal, which was agreed to last week, is now official. The 32-year-old’s four-year pact is ostensibly a series of one-year deals since he has the ability to opt-out after each season. The 32-year-old lefty joins San Diego’s crowded late-inning mix and could wind up getting a chance to close. There should be some clarity during spring training, but it’s a frustrating situation for fantasy managers at the moment.

Zach Peek

Mets signed RHP Zach Peek to a minor league contract.

If you’ve heard Peek’s name before, it’s because he was the Orioles’ return when they traded Dylan Bundy to the Angels six years ago, right before Bundy’s one really impressive (albeit shortened) season in the majors in 2020 (he had a 3.29 ERA and was listed on three Cy Young ballots). Peek, now 27, has since topped out in Double-A, finishing with a 3.63 ERA and a 75/31 K/BB in 69 1/3 innings in the Brewers system last season.

White Sox acquired OF Tristan Peters from the Rays for a player to be named or cash consideration.

Peters was designated for assignment on Tuesday. The 25-year-old made his major league debut with the Rays last season, going 0-for-12 with seven strikeouts. He hit .266/.355/.429 with 15 homers and 11 steals in his second season in Triple-A. While his approach is sound, he doesn’t offer enough defense in center or offense in a corner to project as lasting major leaguer. The White Sox, though, will have outfield at-bats available, especially if they trade Luis Robert Jr.

Blake Hunt

SD Catcher #12

Padres signed C Blake Hunt to a minor league contract.

Hunt, the Padres’ second-round pick in 2017, returns to the organization five years after being shipped off to Tampa Bay in the Blake Snell trade. He spent last year with the Mariners’ Triple-A club, hitting .272/.368/.452 for Tacoma. Unfortunately, while his bat is solid, his subpar defense has kept him from being considered for a backup gig. He’ll probably head back to the PCL next season.

John Curtiss

ARI Relief Pitcher #46

Diamondbacks re-signed LHP John Curtiss to a minor league contract.

Curtiss, 32, had a 3.93 ERA in 30 appearances for the Diamondbacks last season, though he struck out only 24 in 36 2/3 innings. Arizona removed him from the 40-man after the season, but he’ll be back to compete for a bullpen spot in spring training.

Joseph Yabbour

CWS Relief Pitcher

White Sox re-signed RHP Joseph Yabbour to a minor league contract.

Control problems have kept Yabbour from making it out of A-ball, but he has a nice arm. Unfortunately, that produced a 54/42 K/BB and a 5.75 ERA between Low-A and High-A last season.

Caleb Ferguson

CIN Relief Pitcher #43

Reds signed LHP Caleb Ferguson to a one-year contract.

It’s worth $4.5 million, according to the Cincinnati Enquirer’s Gordon Wittenmyer, so it’s a 50% raise for Ferguson over the $3 million he came away with last time around. The 29-year-old had a 3.58 ERA for the Pirates and Mariners last season, but that came with a greatly diminished 19% strikeout rate after he’d never finished below 26% previously. He’ll compete for a setup role in front of Emilio Pagán.

Chris Flexen

FA Starting Pitcher #77

Chris Flexen has decided to head back to Korea, signing with the Doosan Bears.

Flexen spent 2020 with the Bears and was excellent in posting a 3.01 ERA in 21 starts. That success led to a return to MLB with Seattle, and he went 22-15 with a 3.66 ERA in his first two seasons back. However, he’s mostly struggled since, and though he did have a 3.09 ERA in 43 2/3 innings as a reliever for the Cubs last season, he was released in August and never picked up. Still just 31 years old, Flexen might again resurface in MLB at some point,

Matthew Lugo

LAA Center Fielder #15

Matthew Lugo went 3-for-5 as Mayaguez’s leadoff man in Wednesday’s Puerto Rican Winter League action.

Lugo is 12-for-44 with one homer and 10 walks. After a breakthrough 2024 in the Red Sox system, he spent most of last season in Triple-A for the Angels, hitting a disappointing .262/.320/.443 at Sale Lake. Since he’s quite versatile, he still might prove to be a nice 26th man in the majors, but he’ll probably head back to Triple-A to open 2026.

Jorge Mateo

FA Shortstop #3

Jorge Mateo went 4-for-4 and hit his first homer for Estrellas of the Dominican Winter League on Wednesday.

Mateo was playing in his 11th game for Estrellas since being acquired from Escogido in exchange for Eguy Rosario, and he’s thus far hitting .333 in 42 at-bats. A free agent after his $5.5 million option was declined by the Orioles, he should be in line for a major league contract this winter, though probably one with a modest pay cut.

Yainer Diaz

HOU Catcher #21

Yainer Diaz left Wednesday’s game in the Dominican Winter League with an apparent knee injury.

Nothing official yet, but it doesn’t sound like it was serious. The injury occurred on a slide. Diaz, who is playing for Escogido, was 2-for-2 with an RBI before exiting.
