According to El Extrabase’s Daniel Álvarez-Montes, the Nationals signed OF Eddie Rosario to a split contract in which he could earn up to $4 million with incentives.
The deal is pending a physical, so will likely not be official until later in the week. The 32-year-old Rosario seems to fit the offseason pattern for the Nationals to sign players who appear to be just finished with their peak years. The team also signed Joey Gallo, Jesse Winker, and Nick Senzel this offseason, all former top prospects or stars who have struggled in recent years. To Rosario’s credit, he was solid for the Braves last season, hitting .255/.305/.450 with 21 homers, 74 RBI, and three stolen bases in 516 plate appearances. He could easily beat out Winker for the starting left field job, which would give him a middle-of-the-order lineup spot that could provide late-round fantasy value.
