Tyler Phillips tossed a complete game shutout and got the win in the Phillies’ 8-0 victory over the Guardians on Saturday.
Phillips gave up four hits, walked one and struck out four. The win was his third of the season. It’s only been four starts, but it’s difficult not to be impressed by Phillips. He’s completed at least six innings in each of his last three starts and has a 1.80 ERA. Going deep into games and being on a good team is a good recipe for winning games. Phillips isn’t always going to throw a complete game shutout and he’s surely due for some regression, but 19 strikeouts in 25 innings suggests this isn’t a complete fluke. The 26-year-old right-hander is set to face the Mariners on the road next week.
