Vines could be used for multiple innings on Monday after starter Grant Holmes or he could also help out in a bulk role after Tuesday’s starter, who is still undecided. Vines has struggled with a 5.14 ERA in 77 innings over 14 starts in Triple-A, so he remains off the fantasy radar. The Braves optioned LHP Jimmy Herget to the minors in a corresponding move.

Sanoja singled in the eighth inning to tie the game at 1-1 and later came around to score on an RBI single by Otto Lopez to put the Marlins up 2-1. After the Nationals came back to tie it in the ninth inning, Sanoja would find himself up at the plate with no outs and the bases loaded in the bottom of the ninth. He would hit an RBI single off Nationals reliever Clayton Beeter to secure the win for the Marlins and bring an end to their three-game skid. Sanoja has now hit safely in five straight games and is slashing .362/.393/.603 in the month of August.

Gusto was solid in this one, keeping the Nationals off the board over four frames despite allowing six runners to reach base. The five hits Gusto allowed on the night were all singles, and in his final inning of work, he worked himself out of a jam with two runners on and only one out. Gusto hasn’t pitched out of the fifth inning in any of his last three starts and won’t be on the fantasy radar for his next start, which is scheduled for Wednesday against the Red Sox.

Lord served as the opener for the Nationals on Friday. He put two baserunners on in his limited outing, his first coming on a walk to Griffin Conine in the first inning. Lord would be pulled for Will Dion with two outs in the third inning after striking out Jakob Marsee, with Dion getting the final out to end the frame. Lord will revert to the bullpen but is always a candidate to be used in a similar role when needed.

Bednar allowed a double to Brandon Valenzuela to begin the inning but would retire the next three batters he faced. He struck out Brett Bateman to end any hopes the Blue Jays had of a comeback and picked up his 30th save of the season for the second time in his career. Bednar has converted seven of his eight save opportunities on the month and is 14-for-15 in save opportunities since July.

Kirk singled in the top of the fifth inning to bring home Brett Bateman, giving the Jays their first and only run of the night against Cam Schlittler. Kirk’s single extended his hitting streak to 10 games, and he’s slashing a scorching .387/.467/.613 in the month of August.

Serving as the opener in this one, Fluharty allowed two walks in the 2/3 of an inning he pitched, with Spencer Arrighetti coming on to retire George Lombard Jr. after a walk to Ben Rice put runners on first and second. Fluharty has pitched in three of the Blue Jays’ last four games and will revert to the bullpen after this outing.

It wasn’t the most dominant performance for Schlittler, but he did what he needed to keep the Jays off the board for 4 1/3 scoreless innings before an RBI single by Alejandro Kirk gave the Jays their first run of the night. Schlittler struggled at times with his command, walking three batters in this one while throwing 61.5 percent of his pitches for strikes. Schlittler has allowed one earned run in each of his last three starts and will look to pick up his 12th win in his next start on Thursday at home against the Astros.

Bohm came up with the Phillies down one, runners on the corners and none out in the 10th and delivered a 386-foot barrel to center. A quality center fielder would have caught it, which still would have resulted in a game-tying sac fly, but José Fermín, who was playing his third position of the night after Everson Pereira was lifted, came up a little short of making a sliding catch. All three of Bohm’s hits tonight left the bat at 103-105 mph. He’s 17-for-37 with seven extra-base hits and 11 RBI in his last nine games.

This is the first time all year Luzardo has given up three or four runs in a start; he’d allowed two or fewer 18 times and five of more seven times in his 25 outings. The first two runs tonight should have been unearned and might get changed later. With two outs in the first, Jordan Walker hit a grounder to third that Bryson Stott had to back up on, but he had plenty of time to make a throw and unleashed a bad one. It went as a single and a throwing error, but it should have been a straight error. Joshua Báez then followed with a homer. Luzardo is slated to make his next start Wednesday in Seattle.

Walker has now gone deep in three straight games, putting him up to 27 homers for the year. He’s moved into a tie with Sal Stewart for first place in the majors with 96 RBI. Incredibly, it looks like he’s going to exceed his total of 112 RBI from his first three seasons (279 games) combined.
