Mets claimed OF José Azocar off waivers from the Padres.
Azocar will bolster New York’s outfield depth moving forward after being removed from San Diego’s 40-man roster earlier this week. The 28-year-old outfielder has gotten into 214 games in the big leagues since 2022, batting .243/.287/.322 with two homers and 18 steals in 397 plate appearances.

Mets placed RHP Dedniel Núñez on the 60-day injured list.
Núñez is still in the recovery phase of his second career Tommy John surgery and is expected to miss the bulk of the 2026 campaign. Shifting him to the 60-day injured list clears a spot on the Mets’ 40-man roster for the addition of Ben Rortvedt on Sunday.
Carroll, Lindor, Holliday all injure hamate bones
Eric Samulski dives into the rash of hamate bone injuries affecting MLB stars, sharing the latest news regarding Corbin Carroll, Jackson Holliday and Francisco Lindor, who all will miss time with hamate bone injuries.
  • NYM Catcher #47
Mets claimed C Ben Rortvedt off of waivers from the Dodgers.
The 28-year-old backstop had just been claimed off of waivers from the Reds last week, but he’ll change jerseys once again as he joins the Mets. Rortvedt will provide quality catching depth for the Mets and can continue to be ignored for fantasy purposes.
  • CHC Infield
Cubs designated INF Ben Cowles for assignment.
The 26-year-old infielder was claimed off of waivers from the White Sox in mid-January, but he’ll get removed from the Cubs’ 40-man roster following the addition of Shelby Miller on Sunday. There’s a decent chance he slides through waivers unclaimed and continues to function as extra infield depth for the Cubs.
  • CHC Relief Pitcher #64
Cubs signed RHP Shelby Miller to a two-year, $2.5 million contract.
The deal also includes a club option for the 2028 season. Miller is expected to miss most, if not all, of the 2026 season while recovering from Tommy John surgery. To clear a spot on the Cubs’ 40-man roster, Ben Cowles was designated for assignment.
  • ATL Starting Pitcher #30
Braves’ manager Walt Weiss told reporters that right-hander Hurston Waldrep is expected to visit Dr. Keith Meister after experiencing soreness in his elbow following a live batting practice session.
The good news is that an MRI exam revealed no ligament damage, though he is dealing with loose bodies so they still want the expert to take a look at it. Weiss noted that at this point, it’s “hard to say” whether or not the 23-year-old hurler will miss any significant time. Look for the Braves to provide an update on his status after that exam.
  • LAA Infield #10
Yoan Moncada told reporters on Sunday that he dropped 20 pounds over the offseason with the intention of staying healthier for the duration of the 2026 season.
The 30-year-old infielder hasn’t appeared in more than 100 games in a season since 2022, so anything that he can do to improve his health and durability is a welcomed development. Whether or not his new sleek physique will translate to better offensive performance remains to be seen.
  • TB Pitcher #63
Rays’ manager Kevin Cash told reporters on Sunday that right-hander Edwin Uceta will not pitch for the Dominican Republic in the World Baseball Classic due to a “cranky shoulder”.
The issue is believed to be minor and isn’t expected to impact Uceta’s availability for the start of the regular season. The 28-year-old hurler is one of many options that’s expected to fight for save chances at the back end of the Rays’ bullpen in 2026.
  • TEX Outfield #24
Rangers’ manager Skip Schumaker told reporters on Sunday that Brandon Nimmo is likely to function as the team’s leadoff hitter in 2026.
That was always the expectation, but it’s nice to hear the skipper confirm it. Schumaker also noted that Nimmo will play right field. Nimmo had a terrific season for the Mets in 2025, slashing .262/.324/.436 with 25 long balls, 92 RBI and 13 stolen bases in 652 plate appearances.
  • SF Relief Pitcher #99
Giants placed RHP Rowan Wick on the 60-day injured list.
Since Wick is expected to miss the bulk of the 2026 season while recovering from Tommy John surgery, this move was an inevitability. Doing so now clears a spot on the Giants’ 40-man roster for the addition of Will Brennan on Sunday. Wick signed a one-year deal with a club option for 2027 earlier in the week.
  • SF Right Fielder #17
Giants signed OF Will Brennan to a one-year contract.
No word yet on the financial terms of the contract. Brennan, 28, underwent surgery back in May to repair a torn UCL but is fully recovered and ready to go for spring training. Barring a disastrous showing in Cactus League play, he should crack the Giants’ Opening Day roster.
