As we head into the final days of spring training, you’re going to see every club trim down their roster like this. The Cardinals now have just 31 players remaining in big league camp. Saggese’s best chance of making the Opening Day roster was for the Cardinals to trade Nolan Arenado, but as that still hasn’t happened he’ll be ticketed for Triple-A Memphis to start the 2025 campaign.

Kodai Senga exited Thursday’s start against the Nationals with an apparent injury. He threw 5 2/3 scoreless innings with six strikeouts before leaving.

Senga took a fall while attempting to make a play at first base, and was on the ground for a considerable amount of time. The right-hander was able to leave on his own accord, but exited the game regardless. There should be an update on his status shortly.

Cardinals optioned RHP Chris Roycroft to Triple-A Memphis.

Roycroft has struggled in his chances with the Cardinals as seen in a 6.92 ERA over 13 innings. He’ll head back to Memphis — again — with Andre Granillo replacing him on the active roster.

Cardinals designated OF Ryan Vilade for assignment.

Vilade picked up one hit in 13 at-bats in another unimpressive stint for the former second-round pick. He’ll hit the waiver wire with Michael Siani taking his place on the roster.

Siani is up to provide the Cardinals with some outfield depth. The 25-year-old provides speed and defense for the St. Louis lineup, but doesn’t provide fantasy upside in turn.

Andre Granillo

STL Relief Pitcher

Cardinals selected the contract of RHP Andre Granillo from Triple-A Memphis.

Granillo will have a chance to make his MLB debut. The right-hander has been excellent with a 46/8 K/BB ratio and 1.82 ERA in Memphis, and it’s feasible that he could work his way into a high-leverage role if he has success in his first state of MLB action.

Luke Raley

SEA Center Fielder #20

Luke Raley (oblique) will begin a rehab assignment with Triple-A Tacoma on Thursday.

Raley has been out since the end of April with his oblique strain. The 30-year-old will likely need a handful of games in Triple-A, and then he should return to a regular role against right-handed pitching with the Mariners in the middle of June.

Austin Gomber

COL Starting Pitcher #26

Austin Gomber (shoulder) will come off the 60-day injured list to start Sunday against Atlanta.

Gomber will make his season debut after missing the first two-plus months of the season with his shoulder issue. The 31-year-old has been effective at times, but his inability to miss bats while playing for a team that has shown an inability to be competent makes him a hard pass in fantasy leagues.

Brandon Woodruff

MIL Starting Pitcher #53

Brewers transferred Brandon Woodruff from the 15-day injured list to the 60-day injured list.

Woodruff’s transfer to the 60-day list clears a spot on the 40-man roster, and the Brewers used it to select the contract of Jacob Misiorowski for his MLB debut Thursday. The 32-year-old was removed from his rehab assignment last week, and doesn’t have a timetable for a return.
