Mariners recalled LHP Jhonathan Diaz from Triple-A tacoma.

Diaz replaces Bryce Miller on the roster with Miller hitting the IL with shoulder inflammation. Diaz could make a start for Seattle, but the 28-year-old also could just be a multi-inning option as well. Either way, there’s no fantasy upside.

Ezequiel Tovar (wrist) is out of the lineup for Tuesday’s game against the Nationals.

It’s a bit surprising that Tovar hasn’t hit the injured list after exiting Monday’s series opener against the Nationals with a left wrist strain. It’ll be Ryan Ritter taking over at shortstop in his absence.

Eric Samulski scrutinizes CJ Abrams return after an ankle injury, and why the Nationals should set their sights on Seaver King for shortstop.

Brewers manager Pat Murphy said Robert Gasser is available out of the bullpen this week.

Murphy added that Gasser and Shane Drohan are expected to start against the Rangers this weekend. There are a bunch of variables to consider when it comes to Milwaukee’s rotation heading into the final month of the season, but it sounds like both Gasser and Drohan will get at least one more turn through before any changes are made.

Tigers manager A.J. Hinch said Keider Montero is on track to start against the Dodgers on Saturday.

Montero will be pitching on extra rest after experiencing some fatigue coming out of his last start against the Pirates last week. It doesn’t sound like there is a high level of concern at the moment.

Tigers sent OF James Outman outright to Triple-A Toledo.

Outman wound up passing through waivers unclaimed this time after being designated for assignment by Detroit over the weekend. The 29-year-old has hit just .172 (27-for-157) with five homers and six steals in 94 games between the Tigers and Twins this season.

Astros owner Jim Crane told the media a decision on manager Joe Espada’s future will be made after the season.

Crane confirmed that Espada, who has only a few weeks left on his contract, will finish the season as the club’s manager. It certainly sounds like the Astros are going to move in a different direction after parting ways with general manager Dana Brown earlier this week. It’s pretty common for a new president of baseball operations to pick their own manager instead of bringing back an incumbent.

Blue Jays manager John Schneider said Shane Bieber has been diagnosed with a mild-to-moderate teres major injury and will be shut down from throwing for at least two weeks.

Schneider added that Bieber underwent an MRI that revealed the issue after experiencing discomfort while throwing a bullpen session recently. It seems highly unlikely he’ll make it back before the end of the regular season with just over four weeks remaining. It’s a tough break for the Blue Jays, and fantasy managers, since he was pitching much better in recent weeks. He’s not worth stashing in shallow mixed leagues at this advanced point of the year.

Mariners activated SS J.P. Crawford from the 10-day injured list.

Crawford makes it back to Seattle after missing nearly one month with left wrist inflammation. The 31-year-old impending free agent should serve as the club’s everyday shortstop with top prospect Colt Emerson undergoing season-ending wrist surgery.

Mariners optioned INF Leo Rivas to Triple-A Tacoma.

There’s no reason for Seattle to keep Rivas on the active roster with J.P. Crawford back from the injured list. The 28-year-old has hit .147 (17-for-116) with zero homers, nine RBI and two steals in 139 plate appearances this season.

Yankees manager Aaron Boone said Elmer Rodríguez is a candidate to start against the Astros on Wednesday.

Boone wouldn’t make it official, but all signs point to Rodríguez replacing an injured Ryan Weathers (forearm) in New York’s rotation, at least for one turn this week. The 23-year-old has struggled in a handful of opportunities at the highest level this season, but he remains one of the organization’s best starting pitching prospects. He can be safely ignored in all fantasy formats for now.

Roman Anthony (finger) told reporters there’s a chance he returns for Friday’s series opener against the Yankees.

Now that would be fun. Anthony is expected to wrap up a minor league rehab assignment with a couple games for Triple-A Worcester this week. The 22-year-old phenom possesses the talent to be a real difference-maker for the Red Sox over the final month of the season. Barring an unexpected development, it sounds like there’s a strong possibility Anthony is back later this week. He should be stashed in all fantasy leagues at this juncture.
