McGonigle provided a scare in his second at-bat, when a pitch from Tanner Bibee neared his head and produced an audible crack. However, the pitch actually missed him entirely and instead hit the handle of his bat, which had remained frozen in place throughout. McGonigle went on to strike out after the foul ball, but he broke a 1-1 tie with his two-run double in the fifth and later added an insurance run. It’s his second three-RBI game of the year. Obviously, the Rookie of the Year candidate would have more of those if he weren’t batting leadoff.
